Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

He stands between two worlds, a savior and a destroyer to both. Dragons and aegres will fall. But one can turn the tide. One who stands in the shadow of kings. Such has been seen by the doomed. The weight of ten thousand lives and all the realm besides now sits on Joran's shoulders. So much has already been sacrificed to bring him to the ancient doors of Drakanan, where he might take on the mantle of Dragon Rider and usher in a new age of heroes. Story
Dragons Riders: The last noble warriors in the realm. Only heroes can embolden the ordinary. For centuries, millennia, the Dragon Riders galvanized generation after generation, adding Riders to their ranks and birthing dragons from their eggs. But there are no more heroes. War with the Andarens is like nothing the Riders, nor the armies of Erador, have ever faced. In the place of heroes, there are only soldiers now. Fodder for the machine of war. This time of twilight is set to be the crowning hour of the dark when the light is losing its grip.

I almost returned this book after the first hour but it was so well written that I decided to stick it out.. I am so glad I did. It didn’t take long before I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Though this is a book following several characters and jumping from past to present, it is so well done that it wasn’t annoying. I am grateful that the second book is already out. It starts a bit slow but I realize now that it’s only to set a complete and detailed stage. Stick it out, you won’t regret it.

I love the story line but had a hard time with the MC through most of the book. She was very whiny and childish. However, I have hopes that there will be some maturity gained in the second book. To be fair, it could also have been the narrator making the MC sound whinier than meant by the author. Still looking forward to the next book!

Story
The Lily and the Crown is a lesbian scifi romance about daring to risk your heart with someone you shouldn’t. Ariana “Ari” Geiker lives an isolated life on an imperial space station commanded by her father. Her nameless slave is watchful, intelligent, dangerous, and sexy, and seems to know an awful lot about tactics, star charts, and the dread, marauding pirate queen, Mir. What happens when the slave also reveals an expertise in seduction to her innocent mistress?

I love Rosalyn Sinclair but this was not one of my favorites. There is naïve and there is obnoxiously childish naive- I feel the Ari character fit into the obnoxious category. Maybe just my personal opinion towards the behavior, maybe the way it was narrated. It was still a great story line though and worth a listen if you can get past the Ari character.
