Story
Investigating a crime seemingly unconnected to the Royal Family, Holmes & Watson uncover a conspiracy to kidnap Queen Victoria and destabilise the British Empire. With a ticking clock to her next public engagement, Holmes and Watson must discover who is behind the plot and locate her majesty, while Mycroft tries to keep the monarch’s disappearance a secret from the British people. At first, Holmes believes Moriarty is responsible for the abduction, but when the Napoleon of Crime is proved innocent, Holmes must work with his arch-nemesis to rescue the Queen.

Pretty weak story! Too many characters and voices. Very difficult to sort out the people speaking! There was far too much distraction and commotion. Very difficult to follow the story line. This would have been a much better story had it stayed on track! So glad I didn’t pay for the selection. Queen Victoria, even though an old woman wasn’t really believable. And don’t tell me that the whole company of Royal people would have left this up to Sherlock Holmes! Where were the Royal Cortage and military? Just wasted four hours of my night! Sheesh!!

Story
In this poignant new story, A Gift from Bob, James Bowen recalls the last Christmas he was to spend on the streets, busking and selling the Big Issue with his cat Bob. In 2010, the weather was as bleak as his prospects. Christmas had always been the time he dreaded. Now at least he had Bob by his side, but his health was poor, and he had no money for food or warmth. There was no choice but to venture out onto the frozen streets to earn enough to pay for his electricity and - with luck - to afford some small treats for Christmas as well.

Frank though, needed to be held to task for his 30 year disappearance. And what a wimp was Lacey at several parts of the story. I wanted to smack her for not saying the things that should have been.

Narration was easier to get into, the story was cohesive and definitely compelling. Excellent continuation of the Dad story. But it has been drawn out too long. And not enough clues as to the circumstances of his early life. Overall a worthy read.

Story
Vanessa March's husband, Lewis, is meant to be on a business trip in Stockholm - so why does he briefly appear in newsreel footage of a fire at a circus in Vienna, with his arm around another woman? Vanessa flies to Austria to find her husband, inadvertently becoming involved in a mystery that spans three countries...and the famous dancing stallions of the Spanish Riding School. The moonlight flooded the meadow, blanching all colours to its own ghostly silver. The pines were very black.

Memorable for those of us who were around in the 1960’s and read Ms Stewart’s books. Her talent is on par with Agatha Christie and surpasses her as a romantic mystery writer. I’m waiting for many of her other books to come out in audio. She weaves a brilliant picture of place and yet it is timeless.

I've read the series from the first book. Story tiresome at times with the emotional longings of Scarpetta. Too much of this made the book drag through out the middle. But story especially the ending was stirring and worth the read.
