Publisher's summary

This dazzling thriller pits Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta against greater odds than ever before.

Convicted serial killer Carrie Grethen has escaped from a psychiatric hospital with plans for revenge. Wary and shaken, Scarpetta also has to investigate the death by fire of an unknown woman. The post mortem reveals the woman was stabbed before the fire was started, and soon Scarpetta and her colleagues are called out to the scene of another fire and another murder.

When her lover, Benton Wesley, disappears while following up a tip-off, Scarpetta, with sudden, appalling clarity, sees that Carrie has set up a scenario in which she has the upper hand and can manipulate them all.

This narration is horrible

As much as I wanted to read this book and audio form I just could not listen to this new narrator

Computer generated narration

I enjoyed the story but the narration sounded like it was computer generated. Made it difficult for me to listen to the story. Ended up speeding up the reading just to to the end.

Scarpetta

I love all of the Kay Scarpetta books. They are always interesting and full of suspense. Point of Origin did not disappoint. it has all of the characters and combines love and terror at every turn.

Bad narration

The story is as good as any of Cornwell’s novels. What stands out in this book is the horrible narrator. Karen White has a nice voice, but her intonation and rhythm are strange and not natural. Ruined the book for me.

great book

they only thing I didn't like is the new voice. too soft for an ex smoker and hardened bourbon drinker.

Just missing it...

The story did not include Marino as much as the previous books had done. At times I found myself wondering where he was during a scene or why he wasn't as involved. I've come to love his character and missed his presence in this book.
What didn't help was the change of narrator. I love Karen White and have listened to many books she's read. However, her narrative style is just not a good fit for this series. I hate to say it but I'm glad she does not continue to read for the Scarpetta series. Looking forward to listening to the new narrator in the next book.

Unbelievably terrible narration

I'm 25 minutes in and I am going to have to stop listening. The narrator is horrible! I wish I'd have read previous reviews. She basically sounds like an android. Only slightly better than the voice for my GPS.

Great story!

Love the story but the voice this time sounded robotic. Hoping the next in the series is a different narrator.
