Story
George V. Higgins's seminal crime novel is a down-and-dirty tale of thieves, mobsters, and cops on the mean streets of Boston. When small-time gunrunner Eddie Coyle is convicted on a felony, he's looking at three years in the pen—that is, unless he sells out one of his big-fish clients to the DA. But which of the many hoods, gunmen, and executioners whom he calls his friends should he send up the river? Told almost entirely in crackling dialogue by a vivid cast of lowlifes and detectives, The Friends of Eddie Coyle is one of the greatest crime novels ever written.

You can’t believe how bad this book is.

The reader does a great job. But that’s where the compliments stop. This book is slow moving, drawn out and the plot has zero depth. You want a good crime book, listen to the “good guys” by Joe pistone and bill bonanno

Good main character
Reviewed: 03-02-25
Cotton Malone, the main character is a good one. And I’m optimistic about the rest of the series. However the topic of this particular installment is completely played out. I’m tired of story’s about the knights Templar. And the character of Stephanie is quite possibly the most unrelatable character I’ve ever encountered. Not sure what the author was going for with this character but she nearly ruins the book. You end up disliking her more than the antagonist.

Not as good as first two.

First two books are awesome. This third book was not near as good in comparison. The narration isn’t as good either. Still worth a listen.

I have to most petty critique to make. But Richard is outside of his mind if he thinks anyone anywhere in Europe is selling a kilo for 10k. Really should have done his research on that, wholesale price is easily 30k. Ok that’s it, great book otherwise.

Story
Private Enquiry agent Cyrus Barker, along with his partner Thomas Llewelyn, has a long, accomplished history—he's taken on cases for Scotland Yard, the Foreign Office, and even the crown itself, fulfilling them all with great skill and discretion. None of those cases, however, are as delicate and complicated as the one laid before him by a delegation of men who, thirty years before, fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War.

Big fan of this series, especially the first few books. This one is by far the worst of the series, very hard to get through. It may be time to retire the inquiry agents.

A lifetime ago, brutally efficient fixer Phil Kubiak coldly cleaned up the messes of shady clients from Miami to Las Vegas by any means necessary - short of murder. Now he's one eye and one working leg short of the man he used to be, scarred beyond recognition, and with the feds and criminal organizations in hot pursuit. Throwing back sour beer in a dingy bar, Phil recounts the long story of his bitter life to the only person left to listen.

Story
New Delhi, 3 a.m. A speeding Mercedes jumps the curb and in the blink of an eye, five people are dead. It’s a rich man’s car, but when the dust settles there is no rich man at all, just a shell-shocked servant who cannot explain the strange series of events that led to this crime. Nor can he foresee the dark drama that is about to unfold. Deftly shifting through time and perspective in contemporary India, Age of Vice is an epic, action-packed story propelled by the seductive wealth, startling corruption, and bloodthirsty violence of the Wadia family.

Decent

The Irish accents in book 2 are absolutely embarrassing. CJ talks with an idiotic tone far too often. If you can get over the at times painful narration and drawn out voice of the main character it’s a decent little series

Dan I’ve been listening to every episode of your show since it’s inception. But it’s not a good look to block people on social media for being critical of an aspect of your show, gota roll with the punches Dan. I say this because you blocked me on twitter because of a review I made.
Also you say in this episode that Eubank jr isn’t near a title shot and also you say hasn’t faced a champion in his career. Which is false cause he fought Groves for super middleweight title.
In short this is a good podcast, maybe top 3 boxing podcast.
But when you block people or try and weed out critical reviews, it’s a bad look Dan.
