About this listen

Good intentions: they'll bite you every time.

A lifetime ago, brutally efficient fixer Phil Kubiak coldly cleaned up the messes of shady clients from Miami to Las Vegas by any means necessary - short of murder.

Now he's one eye and one working leg short of the man he used to be, scarred beyond recognition, and with the feds and criminal organizations in hot pursuit. Throwing back sour beer in a dingy bar, Phil recounts the long story of his bitter life to the only person left to listen...

Across the splintery table, a journalist in pursuit of a career-making interview has driven into the bowels of the desert, seeking not only an award-winning profile but also something more... something darker.

Will what she sees in Phil's empty gaze spur her toward forgiveness - or vengeance?

One of Lashner’s best

This was a long, convoluted story but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wish he’d make it a continuing series!

sometimes the reader and author are a great match!

Like Daniels turns in a great job, maybe his best yet!
The story has it all , liars, conmen, enforcers, thugs, women of questionable reputation. And cold blooded killers what else could you ask for?
The only thing I didn't like was the predictability of the ending, but what the heck this book gives you a great ride, and the ending is minor.
This could be a movie with Sam Eliott in the staring role.
The bad Guys are relentless in hunting down their victims.lots of blood and guts, shoot outs and great story telling

very cool twist!

If you could sum up A Filthy Business in three words, what would they be?

your friendly cleaner

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed that this book had a twist at the end. I have to be honest, I did not see it coming. I was hoping, but didn't even think it.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Luke Daniels does a superb job of narration and getting the different characters their own voice. Sometimes I honestly think there is no way it can be just one person.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

oh, yes! almost did.

Any additional comments?

I hope this becomes a series. I really enjoyed the characters and the story!

Satisfaction

Testosterone, old fashioned PI like story. Plenty of women characters but it is still a Testosterone story.

I was entertained

I'm sure Luke Daniels is one of the reasons why I like this book.

The story was OK. You cannot be looking for a classical who done it. Or classical anything for that matter. It wasn't a very plausible book, but if you want to get out of your head for a few hours, this could be the book for you.

It's just a fun story to listen to, brought to life by Luke Daniels

Great start of a series

So there's a little bit of tv-series formula here, but the story is so well told that it doesn't get in the way.

NARRATOR GREAT!!!

Story good, narrator awesome! Here are more words for fifteen word minimum which is silly.

Dark, but delightful!

I kept wanting to know more in spite of being repulsed by the villainous main character. I’d love to see this made into a Netflix series! If you loves Walter White, you’ll love Kubiak!

Unforgettable (for good or ill)

Wow, I don't even know where to start. First off, this is not for the faint of heart; I read a lot of crime/noir/hardboiled books and this book made me gag in a few places. Second off this is an unforgettable book. The main character is a psychopath and recognizes that he is one. He has no empathy and thinks only of himself and how he can manipulate others to further his ambitions. Is he redeemed at the end of the book? That's for you to decide. The narrator is superb (maybe that's why I gagged 😏).
