Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

I can understand why JD is a very popular candidate. His story is raw, painful at times, but also relatable to many rural and rustbelt Americans.

Good palate cleanser, very Hallmarkish

If you’re looking for a Hallmarkish feel-good book, this is a good one. Southern and sweet. If you need a palate cleanser after a terrible book, it’s a good choice.

Very original story line. Loved how it had Fried-Green-Tomatoes mixed with Tuck-Everlasting and The-Time-Traveler’s-Wife feels. My only issue was with the actress reading sounding like she was straining a whisper most of the time.

Vega Jones escapes an abusive relationship with nothing but her two-month-old baby and the van she grew up in. Her destination is a small Ohio town her late vagabond mother left years ago. It’s one full of nobodies, her mother warned. That makes it the ideal refuge for Vega to lie low, feel safe, and maybe learn more about a past her mother never spoke of.

Moral of the story: distrust all who have a penis unless the human with a penis wears woman-face. And why do those “rednecks” have southern accents?? They’re from the North! Talk about stereotypes gone wrong. And the narrator… No, thanks Dylan Mulvaney. Sorry was predictable and felt forced and the narrator was absolutely annoying. I couldn’t finish the audiobook.

This story is very original. Reminded me of Winter’s Bone in it’s dark tones. However, the narrator talked like she was attempting a grunting whisper while stoned. Her voice didn’t match the story in my opinion. But nevertheless, it is a good story.
