About this listen

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Allison Williams and Dave Franco.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.

While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.

I happily ever after.

I was so frustrated for most of this book. Morgan and Clara had my emotions all over the place. Miller and Jonah were good anchors to hold them in place from their erratic moments. I can’t imagine dealing with the loss and anguish then to find out the betrayal that took place prior to. I am very pleased with how they adjusted and learned to live with the loss and the truth.

Definitely unexpected

I enjoyed this book so much. I assumed it was going to be only about a teenager crush but it was so much more. I couldn’t stop listening to it because I wanted to know what else could happen in these relationships. I’m so happy with the happy endings that I even dropped a tear of joy. It was definitely worth the read/listen.

Definitely YA Book

Maybe I missed something... there was no mystery or suspense, no psychological thriller. Somehow I got a young adult book. The storyline wasn’t bad, kinda cute in a way, but definitely not the genre I prefer. It kinda felt Fault In Our Stars-ish, but not as gut wrenching.

Enjoyable, easy listen

I didn't love the narrator for Morgan, but I enjoyed the story enough that I was able to get past it. If you're looking for a family drama with romance mixed in, this is the book for you.

Horrible narration

Though the story was good, the voice of Morgan was incredibly distracting. Her use of prepositions like the words to and for were very unnatural sounding to the point of sounding robotic.
It was hard to get past this as Morgan’s voice was 50 percent of the book.

Distracting when I needed it, heart warming, and real.

I had no idea how much I’d like this book, especially considering I didn’t even read the description. I just hit play and very quickly fell in love with this read. In a time of constant emotional and mental stress in my life this book intrigued me and kept me distracted from my life. There are ups and downs like in reality and in the end I couldn’t stop smiling. Great book.

loved it, a total surprise

The beginning of this book didn't prepare for the surprise inside. A very touching and wonderful listen and a little amusing too.
