Fantastic finale!

Everyone is going to die. All the Weavers. But wait, aren’t the soul-mates supposed to die if their Weaver dies? That seems to have been forgotten, or maybe I imagined that but from book 1 or 2.
Anyway, we know they can’t actually all die so there will be something not quite expected happen. But geez, they wait until the last possible second for even a glimmer of hope!
It’s fabulous. I wasn’t sure it could be done, done well, didn’t leave out critical pieces (except maybe the above question but that isn’t critical IMO), and provided a wrap up for everything from goddesses to powers to long term plans and jobs.
Don’t sleep on this one, read the whole series.

The Action Continues
Reviewed: 07-12-23
This book feels a bit different, though the action of the fight with the pestilents continues well. Perhaps this one was a little more formulaic?
Regardless, it was a fast-moving, entertaining ride from beginning to end and I want to know the end of the story. In this genre we know the end, of course, to some extent. But how does it all work out? We shall see.

Grey Ackles: The Soul Weaver feels useless. A burden endangering his brothers. The last battle with the pestilents cost Grey his sight and powers. Cort Newton: There is some really weird stuff going on at that house. Spell books, guns, and a giraffe in the backyard? But no matter how strange it gets, Cort is not going to leave the grumpy writer. Adjusting to sudden blindness is hard for everyone, but Grey clearly has deeper reason for needing his vision back at any cost. Cort just wished Grey would confide in him.

I would comment on the multiple narrators but plenty of other reviewers covered it.
From the first two books of the series, I did not like Grey. And yeah, this was certainly a way to humanize him to the readers, but it went far, far beyond that. Between the injury, his love interest / soul-mate, and the intrigue / betrayal plot line, this one keeps you on the edge of your seat but also brings out so much about the characters. It really brought home their connection as well as their heart and ongoing trauma throughout this fight. Best one yet. I might not survive the rest of the series. Haha

Baer Manning - What happens when Baer spills his big secret about monsters and magic to a total stranger? Chaos. In Baer’s defense, he really thought Wiley was a lost brother. This case of mistaken identity forces the cute artist to stay at the plantation house for his own protection while they search for a way to take down a witch. Wiley Stuart - He never should have gotten in Baer’s Jeep. But in Wiley’s defense, Baer is really sexy. And funny. And so sweet. And did he mention sexy? All his life he’d dreamed of superheroes and a life of action.

So far my favorite of the series
Reviewed: 07-10-23
Baer and Wiley are definitely my favorite characters so far, though I haven’t finished the whole series yet. I do get frustrated with the common trope of the perfect couple refusing to see that they fit together at all, despite them both being completely lovesick over each other. But I almost forgive them in this case because Baer and Wiley are so friggin’ adorable! Expect lots of rowdy fun and trouble. I’m still not thrilled with the narrator, but despite a couple of hiccups in this book, I’m pretty sure it’s not him, it’s me. LOL (I listen to a lot of books so I hear some super fabulous amazing narrators - so even a great one sometimes leaves me a bit flat.)
The Weavers tale, fantastical as it is, is so well told that you can almost believe the supernatural elements are normal. And meanwhile you have good character development for multiple main characters, plenty of action and the romance too! What’s not to love?

The world has become a strange place. After a life on the run, Clay Green is rescued by a crazy old lady with a shotgun and an even crazier story about monsters, goddesses, and a secret brotherhood. Gifted with the power of the earth, Clay must locate his missing “brothers” before invading monsters can destroy everything. As if that’s not enough to contend with, Clay can’t keep his hands off the man trying to rebuild the plantation house he’s temporarily living in.

Fabulous Fantasy
Reviewed: 07-06-23
This series is romance, yes, but it is pure fantasy / paranormal. If that isn’t your thing, then think twice, but it is a well done series.
Dane & Clay’s story is quite the roller coaster, as you would expect for the intro to a new fantasy/paranormal series. Lots of questions, quirks and surprises. Enough tension and steam to keep romance aficionados happy, and well thought out world building and paranormal storyline to keep a fantasy fan intrigued as well.
If I could mark down the narrator by a half point, I might, but lower than that would be unfair. He does a perfectly good job in all ways, but something about his cadence doesn’t fit well into my listening air. I can’t put my finger on why but if I do, then I will note it in later series reviews.
Note: I’m on a reread (listen) of this story in anticipation of a new release to add to the end. Even on this, my 2nd or 3rd listen, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and found more details to add to my mental screenplay.

The best of the bunch

(I thought I reviewed this already.)
Lucy Lennox is always fabulous, with quirky and interesting characters in surprising yet perfect pairings. This is one of my favorite series. I skipped this one, however, because it stepped out of chronological sequence and that bothered me, plus I thought it would likely be a bit boring given the date setting. I was so very, very wrong. This is possibly among the most epic of love stories ever. Okay, maybe I exaggerate a bit. But it is perfect. There is drama but not so much of the silly, almost formulaic angst seen in many romance, seemingly formulated to create artificial drama. This entire story feels organic. Very real. And all the feels you could possibly want.
It’s about family in multiple dorms, love in many forms, intense connection that defies conventions and barriers, and a love story that stands the rest of time. And yes, they are hot and the sexy times are steamy, of course (without overpowering the story).

A Sweet, Sexy, Light Story.
Reviewed: 03-03-23
Not quite the usual Patricia Logan fare. I did not find the narration to have much punch to it, but it was fine. The story is rather sweet. As it is a short book, I expected and received short character development. It has the usual level of P. L. heat in the bedroom scenes, but not the sort of adventure level many readers might be expecting. It is a very nice, if not very exciting, book. It doesn’t have to always be explosions, car chases, and shootings.
The secondary characters here could turn into some great primary characters for further work in the series. It is marked as the first of a series though there aren’t any more listed. I would try another in the series, if it were longer, though I might go Kindle rather than Audible version.

I hate the last book in a series. You begin the story knowing it is the end. There are loose ends to be tied up. A good bit of it will be dedicated to this housekeeping.
Forget all about that. This is not only a full story of a relationship in itself, but also finishing up all the stories from this series, without feeling like it is doing housekeeping at all. It has the HEA/HFN ending for the whole series without being forced or cheesy and wrapped up the suspense/political intrigue part of the plot successfully as well.
Very well done!

I have read or listened to most of N. R. Walker’s books. I love most of them, though a few fall a bit flat for me, those are by far the exceptions. So this one has been sitting on my wish list for a long time. It sounded…odd? I’m not sure quite how to describe my impression of the description. Just a bit strange. Not really my thing. Do I really want to read that? I just didn’t have that strong pull toward this book.
Oh but why did I wait so long?!?! As this author is prone to do, something I did not think would appeal to me has become one of my favorites. A fascinating look into the past and a great story, with likable characters (except for the “bad guys”), unexpected twists, and an HEA with one of the MCs having a change of heart/outlook on life. That’s really what the best relationships do, isn’t it? Changes your perspective on the world in some ways.

I knew this would destroy me
Reviewed: 08-04-21
The previous book in this storyline (not exactly a series), Hush, is one of my favorite audiobooks. It is one of the very few that I listen to repeatedly. So when I saw this book was released and I saw the description…I knew. I knew it would be amazing and I knew it would destroy me utterly. I was right. I will not share any spoilers. It is absolutely riveting despite the length.
The only complaint that I have is that John Solo voiced Kris a bit differently than Joel Leslie did in Hush (of course), and that was okay but I missed the extra sense of sassiness that Joel was able to give to the character. This did show more of Kris’ serious side and more of his internal struggles, so it fit well enough but I would have enjoyed hearing that sass a bit more when called for.
I was desperate throughout the book. I screamed at my phone (playing the audiobook). I could not figure out how it could possibly end well. It was a complete and total roller coaster ride with the fabulously descriptive detail I have come to expect from Tal Bauer throughout every moment along the way.
I don’t cry often. Not even occasionally. Then there was this book…. At the end, they were happy tears.
