Good book with one annoying feature

Narration was not bad, but not great. Enjoyed the story and writing, but I never want to hear the words Colt or baby again. The repeating of these words had me literally cringing by the end of the book.

Story
It's 1753, the golden age of piracy is dead along with its famous Pirate Captains, still pirates are sailing the seas and Pirate Captain Nathanael Blackthorne is "out there" doing what he does best captaining, the Ciara Morganse, seeking revenge, when Providence dumps a treasure on his deck, Cate Mackenzie, a Jacobite War criminal. It's a story of people, scared of both spirit and flesh, coming to grips with that ol' demon, Trust. It's the story of what a man will do to preserve his most treasured. It's the story of what a woman will risk to gain what she desires most.

This is more than just an audiobook. It’s a a whole production. I read the books, so I already knew the story and writing was amazing. The narrators and sound effects bring the story to life. It’s like audio theater. Best audiobook ever.

Still trying to figure out the point of this book in the series. It def has some good parts, but mostly it feels like a 19 hour Segway between book 2 and book 4. I assume there is a book 4 coming to (hopefully) redeem book 3.

Story
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

Any additional comments?
To me the book started out a little slow and contained a few cheesy sections. Thankfully the story picked up and I was able to enjoy the book. Not quite as good as the first book though.

Yes. The story is unique, wonderful and extremely well written. The narrator does an excellent job with accents and story telling. I cannot remember a narrator I enjoyed listening more.
