About this listen

Lieutenant Alexander Colton and February Owens were high-school sweethearts. Everyone in their small town knew from the moment they met they were meant for each other. But something happened, and Feb broke Colt's heart; then she turned wild, and tragedy struck. Colt meted out revenge against the man who brought Feb low, but even though Colt risked it all for her, Feb turned her back on him and left town.

Fifteen years later Feb comes back to help run the family bar. But there's so much water under the bridge separating her and Colt, everyone knows they'll never get back together - until someone starts hacking up people in Feb's life. Colt is still Colt, and Feb is still Feb, so the town watches as Colt goes all out to find the murderer while trying to keep Feb safe. As the bodies pile up, the feds move in, and a twisting, turning story unravels, exposing a very sick man who has claimed numerous victims. Along the way Feb and Colt battle their enduring attraction and the beautiful but lost history that weaves them together.

Great story

Another great story by Kristen Ashley! Wasn't impressed with hearing the narrator swallowing all the time... I don't think I've noticed that before in other books.

I couldn't put this one down

There was a moment in this book, I had to stop listening and get my emotions in check. The characters were interesting -love, deceit, suspense, sympathy, ah moment. Great Story.

Hated To Have It End

Suspenseful, kept my interest all the way through. Look forward to more books by this author. Good narration.

Good Story, Adult Only

This mystery/romance is about a couple who were meant to be together and knew it from the time they were little more than children; but someone who is obsessed with February (female lead) causes a misunderstanding that breaks the couple apart. Twenty years later, February and Colt (now the local sheriff) find each other again, only to be threatened by the same obsessed man, but this time he is using an ax to hack up anyone he thinks may have wronged February. Good story. Good characters. Nice town and friends. Be aware of language, explicit sex, and descriptions of brutal murders.

Very Kristen Ashley

The characters were in their forties but narration sometimes had them sounding like teenagers. Needed a more mature sounding narratir

Disappointed. Writing was like a different author.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I kept listening to this book because I'm hoping that the rest of the series isn't as disappointing as For You was. Time was well spent for that goal.

What was most disappointing about Kristen Ashley’s story?

I had the bar raised very high with the Colorado series. That was my first experience with KA's writing. I loved the series. The most disappointing things: the story was so immature and poorly written. I'm not a prude and I am not sensitive to male/female traditional roles. But, Feb, 42, needing to sex him on the pool table to get permission to buy her own VW Bug, before they are even married and have been back together for a month..? Really? What town, even a small one, has men that talk about who they think about, when they are pleasuring themselves? That seems odd. The whole town living on a high school romance for 22 years was odd. Don't these people have lives of their own...? People go to this bar because of Feb and how great she is to look at? Yet, they think she is a whore? Yet, they respect her family? And, how good could her Fritatas have been? The whole town is envious that Colt got one? The emphasis on body language, was just strange. Head tilts. Jaw raises. The number of inappropriate times they said each other's names...? Colt. Feb. Baby. Added to insult, was most of the time Feb had an accent and called him either Cult or Cault. Finally, the transition between sentences and chapters was hard to follow and inconsistent. Sometimes, there would be long pauses just in between sentences. Or, day/times would change, without any transition in tone or voice. Yet, some chapters bled right into each other with no transition.

How could the performance have been better?

More consistency in tone and transition between parts of the sentence or chapters. Odd emphasis on words that sounded catty or just immature, like she was 12.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Possibly, if the actors were good.

Any additional comments?

I am hoping that the entire series isn't like this...

Too repetitive

Couldn't finish. I got tired of hearing "Feb", "Alec ". Main characters were too stupid to fight for true love.

Great book horrible narrator

This is my first Kristen Ashley book and I thought it was amazing, I cannot wait to read more!!! The narrator is HORRIBLE though. I agree with all the other comments about how u can hear her swallow and clear her throat and it is disgusting. I glad she doesn't read any of the other books in this series!

Great Story...

...but the editing definitely left something to be desired. Still, it's hard to totally mess up anything by this author!

The story was good but...

I love Kristen Ashley and have listen to many of her books. While this one kept my attention it was a little drawn out. I was waiting for a twist in the story but it didn't come. It was very predictable but still enjoyable.

The narration is another story. The pauses where oddly placed and interrupted the flow of the story. It became quite annoying. It was difficult to differentiate between the different characters at times. In the middle, there was this very annoying noise that resembled someone chewing loudly.
