Story
What is economic growth? And why, historically, has it occurred in only a few places? Previous efforts to answer these questions have focused on institutions, geography, finances, and psychology. But according to MIT's anti-disciplinarian César Hidalgo, understanding the nature of economic growth demands transcending the social sciences and including the natural sciences of information, networks, and complexity. To understand the growth of economies, Hidalgo argues, we first need to understand the growth of order.

It’s like economic and ecosystem poetry! It tickled the part of my mind that is almost always self stimulated only. I’m so glad that people are discussing higher order without the common corruption Trojan horse that is most books on information. I loved it and will relisten and relisten!! Well done! Great job! Much appreciation for the time and effort you have spent focusing on this!!!!

Story
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Yet, rather than feeling empowered, we are often left feeling overwhelmed by this constant influx of information. The very knowledge that was supposed to set us free has instead led to the paralyzing stress of believing we’ll never know or remember enough. Now, this eye-opening and accessible guide shows how you can easily create your own personal system for knowledge management, otherwise known as a Second Brain.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

An interesting perspective
Reviewed: 11-18-22
Most of this is fairly rational, there are a few biases but overall I would think it would be be a good add on to most people’s library. I think the transition from some nomads to agricultural was overlooking the massive leap in record keeping and assuming everyone was capable of making the journey. Seemed a little short sighted but it was a relatively small issue for me. Otherwise enjoyable so 4.9/5
