Continuing on in a wonderful fashion, these stories are pleasantly complex, with good surprises, but subtle foreshadowing thank some may be able to sus out. Fun narration and voice over work, and always narrated by the character telling the stories. I highly recommend Andrew Rowe's body of work!

a mix of twilight and 50 shades..

this was one of the more sophomoric stories I've attempted to listen to. the characters had terrible boundaries and there was no real tension or real human reactions between them. the writing was pretty basic and it felt like the characters were 17 year old girls, not grown men. this one just didn't do it for me.

Story
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

perfect for inclusive nerds of all ages!
Reviewed: 07-06-20
to preface: if you love some or all of the following, you may very well adore this book. inclusivity, strong female characters, legend of Zelda, Baulders Gate, tabletop role play, dungeon crawler console games, geek culture, elder scrolls, the ridiculousness of video game mechanics, and stories where everyone wins..
I was lucky enough to get this book free through audible new releases. I always enjoy previewing books before sharing them with our kids, but this was a special treat. It was so good that about 1/3 of the way through I stopped, and insisted my husband listen to it with me. we took a short kid free road trip and agree this may be our favorite Audio book ever.
We would have to pause the book every 10 minutes or so to laugh or discuss some particularly entertaining part of the book, and we were both sad it was over in the end.
this book is.. well.. non-traditional. it has a non traditional story line, a non traditional hero, a non traditional world creation and a non traditional ending. there were all types of people, from "ooh, I wonder if this character is potentially queer, they never specify the gender of the person they were staring at! that seems intentionally vague!", people of color, some imperfect personality traits and disabilities... kinda like the real world! (but not at all).
We plan on buying a bunch of copies of this book and giving them out to all the baby geeks and nerdlets in our life because this book was top notch!

plot lacks believability, weak main character
Reviewed: 06-09-20
if weak women, bad decisions, and a plot that is forced and awkward get you out of the mood, I would probably avoid this one. I admit, I kept listening because of the train wreck of character development and situations created to force the plot. the narration was decent and the actual writing, the way the words flowed and structure was engaging. but the actual story? half a second of critical thought and I was left incredibly irritated with the main characters. the woman alternated between stubborn, arms flailing, impulsive, and wanting a big strong man to save her. the males alternated between fist fighting, stalking, consent violations, and a sensitive inner monologue. the plot twist was abrupt and awkward, and not a single part of this book felt sexy. if you ever find yourself thinking too hard about.. well, anything, and prefer consent and consistency in the story line , you might want to skip this one. alternately, perhaps the forced drama will be amusing to you. Who knows. It was cringy to me though.

I find this book incredibly difficult to listen to. as another person with disability, she comes off far more whiny and complaining than she does in her videos, and I just felt that the entire thing was pretty cringey. I only made it through about four chapters before I hit the stop listening.

if you are familiar with ether Boston or Irish accents, this audio book will drive you nuts. I didnt even make it 15 minutes before i had to turn it off. i appreciate the attempt at "irish boston", but no. just no. the performer was consistant, and had a nice pace and voice, but the accent was just so off that i could not pay attention to the story.

Reviewed: 02-18-16
the narrator rather got on my nerves. I felt that she was trying too hard to sound sophisticated, but instead just came off as.. awkward. it detracted enough that I'm not sure about the actual a writing. my impression was that it was so so, and the logistics of the science behind this version of vampirism didn't really add up, even without suspension of disbelief.

a teeny bopper bodice ripper.
Reviewed: 02-06-16
I am guessing I am not the target audience for this, but this vampire may as well sparkle. Maybe I am just to old to appreciate another 17 year old stalkholm syndrome romance, but I found this tedious, and in places snortworthy. a true teeny bopper bodice ripper, that seems to try to be a more eloquent version of twilight.
