5 Books In It Gets Better.
Reviewed: 01-19-23
I really struggled to get through this series, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Overall, this was a pretty original concept, it just didn't keep me on the edge, needing to see what happened next. I think the narrator was some of the problem, as I kept getting distracted, trying to decide whether the narrator was an AI or not, but I was reading it on my own during the first 4 books, so maybe not.
Basically, I didn't feel pulled into the story at the beginning. I think there could have been some editing and fewer books and it would have been better from the beginning rather than 5 books in.

This is Not the Romance You Are Looking For....
Reviewed: 09-03-22
I read this book thinking it was a romance, however, I was very far from the mark. If you're looking for a thriller though, this is definitely the book for you. It leaves you with so a question so deep, you could lose yourself in the wondering. I need to know definitively, so I was not super thrilled at the end. If I could let myself not finish a book I probably wouldn't have, and then I would have saved myself the time I've spent being mad at the ending.

Okay, but not Memorable
Reviewed: 07-17-22
The narrator was the best thing about this series, however the characters she was forced to read were two- dimensional at best. A love-sick teenager who loved the idea of a fantasy all-consuming love without any reason except he's‐a‐tortured‐gorgeous-bad-boy-who's-not-bad-at-all‐and-wants-only-me, would probably not be able to put this book down. This series had a lot of potential with some creative ideas, but it just lacked any real depth and I found myself struggling to finish. Oh, and the female main-character was a pansy, which didn't help for me.

Story
I am Levy Michaels. Once my kind were the hunters - now we are the hunted. Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory - instead it comes with a death sentence. I have to hide in plain sight and pretend to be just human. I’m pretty good at it.

I have encountered some audible narrators that just make me cringe and not even able to continue the book... this was not one of them. The story was exciting and the narrator emphasized and changed things ti fit characters wonderfully.

I honestly can't tell you if the story gets better because I couldn't get past the horrible narrating. No emotion. Same pattern and cadence for every sentence. The reading completely distracted from the story.
