Story
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Beautiful Story
Reviewed: 07-31-24
I loved every minute of this book. I loved the way it was written, read and unfolded. It was tragic and romantic all at the same time. It was a brilliant John Grisham legal thriller but it was also a coming of age story and a wonderful history of the Mississippi Coast. I loved this book. I loved the narration, characters and the flow of the story. This is an excellent listen.

Story
Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.

I loved everything. I loved the way the characters evolved, slowly overlapped and how the chapters reflected the three main characters. I loved the deep dive into nature, the animal world and about how delicate nature’s balance is. I loved the narrator. Obviously as the author she knew how each dialogue sounded in her mind as was able to reflect that in beautiful reading. I love her gorgeous writing and use of gorgeous vocabulary.

From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

This Book Blew Me Away
Reviewed: 04-20-23
It is hard to talk about this book. It had a visceral effect on me. I felt, smelled, tasted, everything that was going on. I felt nauseous and like I had small bones stuck in my throat. I had no idea where this book was going but was enthralled and horrified all at once and could not put the book away. I was so confused but utterly willing to move through the book because the writing in my opinion id gorgeous. Even with 90 minutes left I was asking my sister in law (who recommended this book) if I would ever understand. She promised me I would. She was right. This is a heavy and emotional commitment but well worth it. I’m going to have to find something really light and silly to read before I hop into Ms. Ward’s next book. And I will. Side note - the reader Christopher Ragland was fantastic. He was absolutely amazing.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

I'm not sure how to say how amazing this book is
Reviewed: 09-18-22
This book is gorgeous. It is a beautiful story of love, loss and found. I was a bit skeptical at first because of a talking octopus. I am so glad that I read the reviews and they were so intriguing to me, I went for it. I am eternally grateful to the universe for moving me ahead with this book. It is written beautifully with characters that are so vibrant and clear and lonely and sad and funny and pure. My heart ached. I laughed out loud. I winced. I even went to a search engine to see what the other creatures in the aquarium looked like. I felt every moment in my soul. This book is for everyone and should be read by everyone as a nod to all the quirky loves in their lives. I just bought a hard copy in large print and sent it to my mom. Marin Ireland is extraordinary in this reading. I love her anyway, but this is beyond. Michael Urie is Marcellus and he was a delight. This story is absolutely perfect - I cannot recommend it enough.

It's Great Even Though You Want to Punch Erin
Reviewed: 07-31-22
This is a great story. But it is a little bit bogged down in some stupid decisions. I want to shake Erin and ask her to think before she acts. Currently she acts and then thinks. But what is worse the end of this story falls short as to a solid ending.
