Should have been great, but

The narrator was terrible. I had to check several times to make sure it wasn’t a AI narrator. The Persephone side narrator was amazing and did Hades’ voice perfectly. She should have narrated this one as well.

Then, the constant sex scenes, etc. I’m no prude, but really. I think I missed half the book in fast forwarding the nonsense. Will listen to the next Persephone, but not the next Hades.

I loved the change in perspective and how it allowed the fleshing out of the story. I didn’t love the narrator. I LOVE Mary Robinette Kowal and how she narrates the books. Her voices are distinct and you can hear who is speaking. The way she portrays the characters is awesome.

The accents were wrong, voices indistinct, pronunciations incorrect based on how they have always been, etc. I really didn’t like how he portrayed October. The whole thing really took away from the story.

Good story, but too breathy on the female narration

I don’t mind a little heavier breathing in the steamy parts, but the gal reading sounded like she was in respiratory distress half of the time. It was distracting and annoying.

I love the October Daye series and the Indexing books. I really didn’t love this. I like the concept, but as other readers said, Rose is incredibly whiney and annoying in this book. The narrator is also not great. Just meh all around. I’m not sure I’ll bother with the third one.

I liked the concept and how genuinely kind the two characters were, but as it went on, it felt more like a lecture on how to be a better person, how we shouldn’t judge, how we must see everyone’s view, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a subtle lesson and guidance. I think a moment of enlightenment and “wow, I NEVER thought of it that way,” is awesome. But don’t beat me over the head with it every time we meet a new character so blatantly. It felt like the author had a list of points to make and built the story around checking them off. I really liked the characters initially, but that aspect got in the way.

While I still find the word choice annoying, the female narrator is much better than in the first one. The story is interesting as well.

I only kept listening because I wanted to see what happened. The female narrator was annoying with her ridiculously breathy speech pattern. The author frustrated me with inaccurate word choice. The second one has different narrators, so I’m giving it a try.

Enough with Watson’s Romantic Assignations

I love the Holmes stories. I’m fine with a little license taken with those who have taken on the stories, but the ongoing and increasing discussions of Watson and his romantic adventures is a bit much. This is not a romance novel. I also find it completely out of character for Watson. The story overall is fine, and I only continue to listen to see what happens, but the dwelling on Watson and his growing obsession is tedious.

These are awful. The few good puns do not help the poor writing and ridiculous misogyny. Don’t waste your time. I’m really glad I hadn’t paid for this.
