About this listen

The Goonies meets Charade in the latest Accidental Alchemist Mystery.

A blackmailer obsessed with gold. A boyfriend who’s more than he seems. And a treasure hidden on the Oregon coast.

Alchemist Zoe Faust’s mentor Nicolas Flamel is back in her life, but catching up with him will have to wait. An elusive blackmailer has threatened to expose a dangerous alchemical secret. Zoe’s boyfriend is out of town protecting secrets of his own. So when rumors of a treasure map reach Zoe, she turns her back on what sounds like no more than a game.

Zoe’s mischievous living gargoyle best friend Dorian, who thinks of himself as a modern-day Poirot, is convinced the map is real - and that it’s the key to proving himself as valuable to Zoe as her human family. With the help of the neighborhood teenagers, Dorian sets out to find the treasure, risking more than he planned in the process. Rumors, treasures, and secrets intersect to unearth more than Zoe could have dreamed - and could leave her family changed forever.

Can Zoe stop the threat to the family unit she’s created?

Loving the story...

And I ordinarily enjoy this narrator. But every time I hear the narrator's incorrect pronunciation of Oregon state it sends uncomfortable gargoyle claw marks up my shins. As a native Oregonian it erks me. It's pronounced Ore GUN not gone.

Other than that, this novel is another winner. I wouldn't expect anything else from this exceptional story teller.

Good, but beginning to get repetitious

The books are lovely, and I hate to be critical. That said, I am feeling more like a young reader with each book because the author chooses to rehash all the best known characteristics of the principals every time she writes. This is because she wants to bring new readers up to speed, or so I believe. But does it have to happen in EVERY book? It is irritating and insulting to someone familiar with a the previous works. Please treat us like the intelligent people we are and just pick up and go. I have felt this way for at least the last three publications. More like books for teens

So Good!

So good!!! I was listening to the audiobook while shopping and I am pretty sure I exclaimed out loud "text him" when Zoe left yet another voicemail for Max. I sat in my driveway for 10 minutes so I could finish the book before going in my house.

This book series needs to be a television series. I think we have at least eight seasons already written.

My only complaint is that the performance is done by someone who does not pronounce Oregon like someone from Oregon. It really doesn't bother me when the newcomers say it like most outsiders. But neither Max nor Brixton would pronounce it as the narrator does. I cringe every time, I'm sure it only bothers a small fraction of the listeners.

Oregon

I have loved this series because it is well written, takes place in Portland and the narrator is wonderful. As an Oregon native, I have enjoyed listening to areas that I am familiar with. That said, the continue mispronunciation of the State name in this book was almost unbearable. It was like fingers on a chalkboard every time “Oregon” was said. It really killed the experience for me.

Intertaining…

Kept me busy and involved. Follows an interesting path touching some heretofore unthought of items. Well worth the read.
