This is a 1.5 rounded to a 2. Elena is whiny, selfish, and oh so annoying. z
You can tell she's going to be the princess and all the other boringly predictable tropes.

I don't know why I finished this book. Trigger warning for rape, abuse, and drug use. Besides basically glossing over a rape, how can they turn Rory's mom into the bad guy, what she did was sort of understand able, and actually name one of their kids after the true trash, and say that person isn't the "villain".
I can't recommend this book and will avoid the author going forward.

I couldn't finish this book. The main character was not appealing, how people treat her is just bizarre. I got through to chapter 6, but not even the promise of ghosts and an answer to the mystery of the baby remains couldn't hold me.

I got through 3/4 of the book, but could not handle the narration and the pointless random female reading the preface every chapter.
The book itself seemed okay, I probably won't pick up a hard copy, even though I hate to leave a book unfinished, I had a hard time getting into the story.

Just a Librarian, with a Penchant for Murder
Reviewed: 12-03-18
The series overall was decent, but I found it a little predictable. As a warning, these books deal with difficult subject matters, such as rape/sexual assault
Go Home, Afton: A small town librarian with a secret desire for murder, this is Afton in a nutshell. This was my favorite book of the series. We are introduced to her world and the cast of characters, Animus her imaginary killer twin, her brother, Chris, Kim, Tia, and Jared, plus the Man in Shadows. We skim her past, but still don't understand why she is driven to kill.
See You Soon, Afton: More secrets of her past catch up with her. She's forced to finally embrace her dark side and we find out more about what drives her. I don't like how she trash talks Tia in her mind and how selfish and cold she is, but if she's really psychopathic then it does make sense because she would believe herself superior to everyone else.
Nice Try, Afton: Things just keep getting stranger in Afton land, and less believable for me.
Time's Up, Afton: This was my least favorite in the series and the most frustrating to listen to. Beyond unbelievable to me and leaving things open for a possible extension of the series?

Story
I hurt. I hurt so deeply, I felt the pain searing in my bones and jabbing like a hot poker into my heart. I knew nothing would make it better as the memories pulled from the crevices of my mind, detailing the bad and the ugly, filling my thoughts with regret as I slipped into the darkness...When I was eight, my mother was dying of cancer, my father lost his job, and the bank kicked us out of our house. I was forced to move to the strange town of Arlis, Texas where my father and I slept in our car in the hospital parking lot.

Don't Make Me Cry or Do?
Reviewed: 11-08-18
At eight years old Alex lost everything; her mother, her house, and most of her possessions. She was living with her father in the car, when Dr. Mason decided to help them. He gives them a chance to start a new life on his ranch. The Masons have a son, Jess, who becomes her best friend. Alex feels like she has become their pet welfare project and begins making a list of what she owes them, thinking she needs to pay them back. The resentment building over the course of her life there, continues in college. Alex is frustrating in her single minded belief that she has to pay the Masons back for everything they did for her and her father. She takes it out on Jess in many ways, when she should just accept his love and move on. I'd give this book 5 stars but Alex was too bratty sometimes so I couldn't justify it. That being said, this is still a great book and worth your time to read or listen to.

A rich story, full of magic, whimsy, and wonder. I read it to my daughter, she's 6, and she was enthralled by Luna's tale. I especially enjoyed Glerk and Fyrian, and their interactions with Luna and Xan. I bought the audible version for her to listen to at night, the narration is wonderful and enriches Kelly's tale of love, heartbreak, and a mothers never ending love for her daughter.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
Why is she so dumb with the cops? This dude, Keller, is all hot to trot for her and she doesn't see him without an attorney, the way he treats her I wouldn’t let him near me with a ten foot pole without an attorney present. And seriously, are these cops so hard up that they have to chase her down on every little thing? How they try to tie her to all these incidents is laughable.
How could she not walk away when they are questioning her about all the incidents? They had nothing to keep her on, so when they piss her off, just walk off.
Never, ever, ever, talk to the police without an attorney present.
Did Kate Rudd do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Her voice is okay, slightly annoying on annunciation
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I'm not sure

Any additional comments?
There are 6 short stories in this book, the narration was decent for the entire book. My favorite story was the Death and Rebirth of Anne Bonny, I actually would have liked this book to be a little longer.
I don't really agree with the classification of SciFi for most of this book, I think there were really 2 Sci/Fi but the the rest were really contemporary fiction to me.
