Story
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Reader seemed breathless with a whispery voice that made her hard to understand. The ending of the story was a bit contrived.

Unintelligible!
Reviewed: 04-15-19
This may have been a good story, but the rapid Cockney/ English accents were impossible for me to follow. There were seemingly random subplots that never gelled as part of the overall story. In attempts at "drama" there were gaps of silence which had no explanations and left me wondering, "What was that all about?"

Story
General George S. Patton, Jr., died under mysterious circumstances in the months following the end of World War II. For almost 70 years, there has been suspicion that his death was not an accident - and may very well have been an act of assassination. Killing Patton will take listeners inside the final year of the war and recount the events surrounding Patton's tragic demise, naming names of the many powerful individuals who wanted him silenced.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would hire a professional reader!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Killing Patton?
I had never heard the allegations that Wild Bill Donovan played a significant role in the death.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bill O'Reilly?
There are dozens of great, good or even adequate narrators on Audible products who would do a better job.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes
Any additional comments?
Bill O'Reilly's performance showed a lack of preparation. It was NOT a workmanlike effort, and it sometimes seemed that this was the first time O'Reilly had read this material! He made me suspect that he didn't participate much in the writing of the book other than to lend his name. He mispronounced common English words, and he hadn't a clue how to pronounce the German words and names. I was embarrassed for him!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Only if it could be bought cheaply.
How could the performance have been better?
David Case has apparently never heard the Japanese language spoken. He falls into the English habit of anglicizing all "foreign" languages. His Japanese accented English sounds Eastern European. He has only two voices, one for the Pilot, and the Japanese and the Portuguese pilot, and the other for the rest of the characters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes. I watched the mini-series many years ago.

Would you listen to Theodore Boone: The Abduction again? Why?
Yes. It was an entertaining story, and although I would know the outcome I would enjoy the, "getting there."
What did you like best about this story?
Theodore's level of knowledge of the law is believable for a kid who grew up in a courthouse in a small town. Fortunately for him, the judges and clerks are patient and tolerant of him, as he sometimes stretches the envelope of the concept of "unauthorized practice of law!"
Which character – as performed by Richard Thomas – was your favorite?
Theodore, of course! He is the type of young man I wish I had been at his age!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
"Theodore Saves The Girl!"
Any additional comments?
I hope John Grisham continues the series and follows Theodore into his teen years.

Story
In the small city of Strattenburg, there are many lawyers, and though he’s only 13 years old, Theo Boone thinks he’s one of them. Theo knows every judge, policeman, court clerk - and a lot about the law. He dreams of being a great trial lawyer, of a life in the courtroom. But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. Because he knows so much - maybe too much - he is suddenly dragged into the middle of a sensational murder trial.

The kid is amazing!
Reviewed: 04-16-12
What made the experience of listening to Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer the most enjoyable?
It was a story that would make a good novel for adults told in a manner suitable for pre-adolescents without gore and steamy sex scenes.
What other book might you compare Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer to and why?
Theodore is in a similar situation to the Hardy Boys. The Hardys were a family of investigators, and the boys were following their father's footsteps investigating mysteries that came their way. The Boones are a family of lawyers with Theodore using his legal knowledge that he "picked up around the house" to help his friends.
Which scene was your favorite?
I liked Theodore's familiarity with the courthouse and the staff there. This is the kind of situation that could really occur in small-town America.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
"Law school? He's ready NOW!"
Any additional comments?
There are a few tiny glitches that only an experienced, small-town courtroom lawyer would notice, and I'll bet if John Grisham re-reads his work in a few years he will see them. This is the kind of book that will keep kids reading and books relevant!
