About this listen

A perfect murder...a faceless witness...a lone courtroom champion knows the whole truth....and he’s only 13 years old.

Meet Theodore Boone. In the small city of Strattenburg, there are many lawyers, and though he’s only 13, Theo Boone thinks he’s one of them. Theo knows every judge, policeman, court clerk - and a lot about the law. He dreams of being a great trial lawyer, of a life in the courtroom.

But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. Because he knows so much - maybe too much - he is suddenly dragged into the middle of a sensational murder trial. A cold-blooded killer is about to go free, and only Theo knows the truth. The stakes are high, but Theo won’t stop until justice is served.

Brimming with the intrigue and suspense that made John Grisham a number-one international best-seller and the undisputed master of the legal thriller, Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer will keep listeners guessing.

Great book!

As always, John Grisham wrote another great book. I wasn't thrilled with Richard Thomas as the narrator. His voice lacked the usual enthusiam of previous narrators and he was not expert in moderating his voice for different characters.

Detailed But Compelling

My nephew got a little distracted by the details and side cases, but said he liked the story.

disappointing

The main story line is left unfinished. The book feels incomplete and the end is disappointing

Meant for juveniles and rather sacharine

I enjoyed the story, and found it kept me listening straight through. The narrator was very effective. I picked the book because I anticipated it would be less violent and gruesome than Grisham’s other novels for adults, but the characters are somehow less well filled out and the situations somewhat idealized compared to other Grisham books.

The kid is amazing!

What made the experience of listening to Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer the most enjoyable?

It was a story that would make a good novel for adults told in a manner suitable for pre-adolescents without gore and steamy sex scenes.

What other book might you compare Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer to and why?

Theodore is in a similar situation to the Hardy Boys. The Hardys were a family of investigators, and the boys were following their father's footsteps investigating mysteries that came their way. The Boones are a family of lawyers with Theodore using his legal knowledge that he "picked up around the house" to help his friends.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked Theodore's familiarity with the courthouse and the staff there. This is the kind of situation that could really occur in small-town America.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Law school? He's ready NOW!"

Any additional comments?

There are a few tiny glitches that only an experienced, small-town courtroom lawyer would notice, and I'll bet if John Grisham re-reads his work in a few years he will see them. This is the kind of book that will keep kids reading and books relevant!
