I am sorry to say...

I will say upfront that I absolutely loved the passage trilogy, so had very high hopes for this new work. I was extremely disappointed. I could not get into this work at all. After listening to the entire book I could not really tell you the plot or much about the characters because they were not memorable to me. I expected a rich depiction of the characters as in the passage. I cared about those people as if they were real but this is not that way at all. The Ferryman felt like a collection of filler placed into a very long book with a hard to follow plot. I wish I could have loved it.

I hesitated to purchase this one because of a few bad reviews but I'm so glad I jumped into this one. This is one of those books that takes you into the depths of the human experience. It is both beautiful and devastating all at once as human life often is. The story is a poignant example of what life is about. Love. that's all there is.

Story
Seventeen-year-old Aderyn ("Ryn") only cares about two things: her family and her family's graveyard. And right now, both are in dire straits. Since the death of their parents, Ryn and her siblings have been scraping together a meager existence as gravediggers in the remote village of Colbren, which sits at the foot of a harsh and deadly mountain range that was once home to the fae. The problem with being a gravedigger in Colbren, though, is that the dead don't always stay dead.

I can't really out my finger on it but something left me flat with this one. It's not that it isn't an interesting read but I felt like it lacked emotion. It didn't bring on the feels like I would expect from a book that covers this topic. It just left me flat.
