It is isn't my favorite Sally Hepworth book but I am a big fan of hers. I think she redefines the definition of a villian in this book. And peels back the cover different types of families and how they can affect a community for years.

It was a terrific book. A little slow in a few places but a great storyline overall. I did wonder what time period this was set. The way the main character handled the problems seemed inconsistent with the technology available to her.

I was extremely disappointed. I love the women's murder club series. But this was more like a subpar underdelveloped short story. Then there other stories that didn't relate to the murder club story line (I just stopped reading after I realized that). I wished I could have returned the book. But the naration was top notch as always. I'm also a fan of January Lavoy.

Story
It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

The narrator was pleasant to listen to. Although, there was a lot of characters and it sometimes it was hard to keep them all straight. But I may have been distracted now and again as I listen to them a lot in the car. But I always love her books.
