Story
In 1920, Annabeth De Lacy’s father is appointed landlord of Galway Parish in Ireland. Bored without the trappings and finery of the British Court, Annabeth convinces her father to arrange an apprenticeship for her with the Jennings family - descendants of the creator of the famed Claddagh ring. Stephen Jennings longs to do anything other than make a career in his family’s jewelry shop. The past has taught him to no longer believe in love and the “lies” the Claddagh ring supposedly promises. How can he peddle what he now finds offensive?

Perfect narration

The story was beautiful and very well written. The main reason I picked this book was for the narrator. I had listened to another book narrated by her and loved her character development. This time was even more impressive. The story literally came alive! There wasn't as much in the case of historical fiction that I wanted, but it also wasn't over the top with the romance or religion. I really enjoyed it!

The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Suddenly, Cassie is back undercover, to find out not only who killed this young woman, but, more importantly, who she was.

Just didn't keep my interest

It wasn't as gripping as it was described to be. I guessed what went on early on in the book and then forced myself to listen to the remainder of it. I must say that I love this narrator though and will follow her into different books.

Story
On the first day of her new job, Harris is called to the scene of a brutal murder at the heart of Surrey society. A shocking crime, with a meticulous killer: the victim’s eyes have been removed and the body drained of blood, with no forensic evidence left at the scene. Her boss insists it must be the return of a killer who escaped justice several years ago, leaving a trail of bloody ritualistic killings. Harris isn’t so sure: both sets of victims have had their eyes removed, but other details are significantly different.

Pretty good cop book. I got to like the main character and a few of her friends/colleagues. Some of the cadences of the narrator seemed off for a few characters. It took some getting used to.

Story
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

I love how this story branched out into two mysteries that blended together in the end! I have really come to enjoy this series! This particular performance had a bit of an echo that was a little annoying at first, but I quickly got used to it and didn't even notice after awhile! On to the next Dervla book! I'm hooked!

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Story
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

I enjoyed some of the historical fiction regarding the Spanish Flu and the Mexican culture. I had a difficult time always understanding the female narrator, but I did enjoy listening to the male narrator. The ending dragged on a little too long which may have altered my overall rating, as I was very ready to get to the end and was disappointed that I truly knew the ending about 5 chapters before its close. I fear it will be a forgettable read for me. 😪
