When we last saw Squad 312, they working together seamlessly (aka, freaking out) as an intergalactic battle raged and an ancient superweapon threatened to obliterate Earth. Everything went horribly wrong, naturally.

Story
During her first weeks in the deeply immersive VR game, Relic Online, she’s hacked out a home from a choking jungle, gathered a tribe of loyal followers, and earned a wisp stalker who insists she’s some kind of champion. But Relic Online isn’t some wussy kids game, and there will be no easy-street cruising for Devon. Like a monk racking up combo points, the system opens a fresh offensive by crippling her most powerful ability. Following through, it strangles the village food supply, sends demons bursting through rifts in the Earth, and delivers a final, devastating throat punch.

Loved this. I was sucked into the series immediately with book 1, and couldn't put book 2 down either. I even grabbed 3 and 4 for kindle, since they arent on Audible. At this rate I will finish 4 books in 4 days. A compelling adventure, a fantastic concept and an amazing world, end to end.

Story
A human, a hellhound, and an archangel walk into a bar...sounds like the first line to a joke, right? Only it's no joke. It's my damned life. Witches are running riot. Shifters are on the hunt. Demons are eating humans. There's a new drug on the street. Sigil is dark and deadly to the paranormal kind, opening up their second sight, urging them to maim, torture, and kill. And the bodies are piling up.

Awful, just awful. I wanted to love this but i couldn't. The writing itself should never have gotten past an editor. Everything is "desperate." In one section I counted 3 'desperate' in 5 sentences! Oh and " his ankle-length coat swirled around his ankles" There was on sex scene the whole book which was a few kisses, a little fingering and then they pumped and finished. The story devices are everywhere. Suddenly the characters have a deep backstory and history because the author added " their years together" or something similar to one sentence halfway through. No character development, no motivation, no complexity. I'm not even really sure what the plot is or where it's going. There is conflict between the protagonist and her cultural authority group, between her and an evil element, between that element and a mysterious power circle revealed at the end of the book, but its everywhere, with no focus and no development. The whole thing could have been written by an angsty teen trying to emulate a Silhouette Romance with no real experience with actual relationships between human beings. And the narrator!!!! She didnt help at all. The whole book sounds like its narrated by Bella mooning over Edward. The. Whole. Time. Every line delivered with breathy, tortured, emotion between lust and self loathing. Walk Away from this series.
