Story
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Story
In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

Wish he was still here to continue writing , traveling and cooking. Someone you would definitely want as a friend. Grateful to still have his writings. Rock on Tony!

Story
Hello to you, I am with news. I have a new book: I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You. I know – what an intriguing title! Basically, I have had an unexpectedly difficult decade – there have been surprising joys but also deep revelations and challenging lows. I shall be honest about those, because what I discovered in the difficult times were my, what I call, treasures.

I’ve had long covid for three years now and unable to work and stuck at home. No one understands what I’m going through, so to find this book was an island in the storm. Thank you Miranda for giving me hope to go on. And thank you for being so candid and sharing the struggles of these conditions that are invisible to most people.

Story
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

One of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time. My father was a big Elvis fan, so I grew up listening to him. We visited Graceland together. Point being is that like some most people that loved Elvis, automatically loved Lisa Marie and her family. I was heartbroken to find out her son had died, and then Lisa Marie. All this to say thank you Riley for opening up and sharing so much of your family and mother. I know it was difficult, but I’m sure helped you heal. The book is so unique, so well written and beautifully crafted. Julia Roberts is perfect. I wish you and your family all the love and hope you have a peaceful rest of your life . My only complaint is that the book wasn’t longer! Hope you write another book, you really have a way with words. Much love.
Listen to the book, it’s fantastic!

Story
In Dusk, Night, Dawn, Anne Lamott explores the tough questions that many of us grapple with. How can we recapture the confidence we once had as we stumble through the dark times that seem increasingly bleak? As bad news piles up - from climate crises to daily assaults on civility - how can we cope? Where, she asks, "do we start to get our world and joy and hope and our faith in life itself back...with our sore feet, hearing loss, stiff fingers, poor digestion, stunned minds, broken hearts?" We begin, Lamott says, by accepting our flaws and embracing our humanity.

Story
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

I don’t normally read books like this but was intrigued by the story. Highly recommended. Heart breaking. Inspiring. What a vivid recount. Makes me wish I could have met these sailors. Especially Capt Mcvay. I will never forget and carry this story with me for the rest of my days. Has inspired me to continue on though my dark days on my own days lost at sea.

Boring
Reviewed: 02-04-16
I usually finish a book no matter what because I figure if I learn at least one thing, or gain one new insight it's worth my time. I continued to force myself to listen to this until finally with an hour remaining I erased it. Was reading it with someone who also was unable to finish it. I wasn't able to identify with Gretchen on so many points. Found it boring, repetitive and just information rehashed from other people.
