Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

I want my time and my credit back. True drivel. Even without knowing the author’s current … pivot?… the books screams “self-important man who still has a lot to learn.”

Story
Fourteen years ago, Kaitlin Roe was the lone witness to the abduction of her cousin Gina. She still remembers that lonely Virginia road. She can still see the masked stranger and hear Gina’s screams. And she still suffers the guilt of running away in fear and resents being interrogated as a suspect in the immediate aftermath. Now Kaitlin has only one way to assuage the pain and nightmares—by interviewing everyone associated with the unsolved crime for a podcast that could finally bring closure to a case gone cold.

Overall was not very good. Super predictable and far-fetched. The narration was good and I was able to get through the entire book but the book got worse as the story progressed. I would pass on this one.

Story
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Really Enjoyed this Book
Reviewed: 08-06-18
I am not ashamed to admit that the HBO series is what prompted me to order this book (I much prefer reading the book before watching any screen adaptation). I knew nothing else about the book or the story but I'm glad I decided to read/listen. The story was compelling (and dark), the narration was perfect, and even when I thought I knew what was going on, I really didn't. Definitely worth a listen!

First, the narrator (Lucy Price-Lewis) is amazing. I have listened to a few books she’s done and I always love her narration. Second, the story was gripping and engaging. I finished quickly because I really enjoyed the listen. It wasn’t the best story ever - the ending fell a little flat - but overall totally worth it.

Great “Read”
Reviewed: 01-16-18
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great story, the mystery kept my interest, the storyline seemed very well mapped out (sometimes I find that endings seem forced and the reveal is too ridiculous to believe but not here). The narration was a little slow for me so I increased the speed to x1.25 and that did the trick. Definitely recommend this book!

Story
You went to bed at home, just like every other night. You woke up in the back of a taxi, over 250 miles away. You have no idea how you got there and no memory of the last 10 hours. You have no phone, no money, just a suicide note in your coat pocket, in your own writing. You know you weren't planning to kill yourself. Your family and friends think you are lying. Someone knows exactly what happened to you. But they're not telling....

A tense, gripping psychological thriller, with Hitchcockian overtones, perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Sophie Hannah and Rosamund Lupton. Lara Finch is living a lie. Everyone thinks she has a happy life in Cornwall, married to the devoted Sam, but in fact she is desperately bored. When she is offered a new job that involves commuting to London by sleeper train, she meets Guy and starts an illicit affair. But then Lara vanishes from the night train without a trace.

The story was incredibly engaging and the narrator's performance was excellent! I was actually frightened at points during the story but still couldn't turn it off. Storyline is somewhat hard to buy but just suspend disbelief and go along for the ride.
