A great mix of the traditional, the contemporary, and the technological. Well-structured plot, and while it has a satisfying resolution, definitely leaves the possibility for more.

Story
If the Roaring Twenties are remembered as the era of "flaming youth," it was F. Scott Fitzgerald who lit the fire. His semiautobiographical first novel, This Side of Paradise, became an instant bestseller and established an image of seemingly carefree, party-mad young men and women out to create a new morality for a new, post-war America.

I can see where it might appeal to some people, but it wasn't for me. Very contemplative and internal. I didn't find the protagonist likeable, so it was hard for me to take interest in his stumbling through life.

Story
Timothy Walter Bolton - better known as Timmy - has spent most of his life as a necromancer. When he isn't terrorising his enemies, he's plotting inside his castle, which is built on top of lightless chasms filled with nameless horrors and beings of a generally malevolent and megalomaniacal nature. But after one of his latest creations, a zombie hydra-dragon-bear, tries to eat him, he decides that maybe it's time to find a new, less dangerous, career.

Great story about feeling like an outsider and making connections. Characters are well developed and sympathetic. Intriguing world building. Strikes a good balance of addressing serious issues without being too heavy.

Overall an enjoyable book. A little more action than the first book, which makes sense as there is less need for exposition. Falls occasionally into some YA fantasy cliches, but if you don't over think it, they aren't too distracting. The reader performance is good, but there are a few off moments where there's clearly a wrong word or mispronounced word that I would have expected to be fixed with editing.

Imagine living with a fear so visceral each day that simply walking down the street draws terror to one’s core. That’s the best case scenario for a woman on the streets of Juárez, Mexico. Kate del Castillo (La Reina del Sur) delivers a stunning one-woman performance that transports listeners from a New York stage to the treacherous streets of Juárez, Mexico, where thousands of women have been murdered in an ongoing epidemic of violence.
