About this listen
Find Another Dream, written and performed by Maysoon Zayid, is the true story of how a Muslim Jersey girl with cerebral palsy creates her own path to stardom.
The daughter of Palestinian immigrants, as a child she dreamed of one day dancing on Broadway. As a teen, a bubble-bursting choreographer told her to “find another dream”, so she set her sights on becoming a soap star, undeterred by the fact that the odds were against her. While chasing fame, she found her voice in stand-up comedy, performing in multiple languages in sold-out shows all over the world.
When not touring, Maysoon Zayid is a passionate advocate who fights for access to education for disabled students worldwide and battles bullying online. In this Audible Original x Hello Sunshine, Maysoon tells tales of family, friendship, love, and career. She takes us on a hilarious, poignant journey of failures and successes. When her dreams turn into nightmares, she finds another dream until finally, the one she least expected comes true.

Story
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. Thank you
I love your story. I heard you in the TED talk, and since then I am a fan. Thank you I will try to remember ...yes I can can. Lovely memory of your father, and the importance of friendship and family to support you.
Thank you I laughed, I cried and I entertained myself from the beginning to the last sentence

Great story until she got into politics
I really enjoyed Maysoon’s story about her family. It was entertaining and fun to hear about her family dynamics. She was hilarious and I really liked her, her family and learning about her culture. I admired her spunk and fighting spirit and that she never gave up in pursuing her dreams! I was disappointed when she got into politics though. It’s okay if don’t like our president, it’s a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don’t care about that, but the name calling and bashing was very disrespectful and in poor taste. It was also sad to me that she couldn’t be friends with her life-long friends just because they didn’t agree with her position. That is very immature.

Enjoyable and easy to listen to
Enjoyed this story and her telling of it. Political comments at the end were disappointing. I prefer my entertainment to be free of politics regardless of the side one supports

important
not hilarious or shocking or a "must read". but important for those of us unlike her to hear her story. so if you are not Muslim, or don't have a physical disability, or not a woman, this is worth your time.

Interesting but also meh
Maysoon first came across my radar from her TED talk. Some of this book is just an extended version of that speech. Overall, she is inspiring, but her writing style isn't necessarily my cup of tea.

Speaking truth!
I loved this book. Maysoon Zayid, previously unknown to me, has highlighted exactly why I didn't know her. Her amazing talent and stubborn, wholehearted commitment to her passion are there, it's temporarily able-bodied folks like me who aren't listening. I'm glad I could listen to this.

Funny and real
Zayid kept it real and funny. Inspiring book, not just because she has a disability, you actually forget about that. But because where she finds herself throughout her life, doing things she dreamed off as a child. The walk away from this is she has the positive mentality that we all wish we had, not allowing ourselves to limit our goals because of what we believe limit us, our incapabilities. She is real life example of all those self help books we all keep reading.
