Story
On June 25, 1973, a seven-year-old girl went missing from the Montana campground where her family was vacationing. Somebody had slit open the back of their tent and snatched her from under their noses. None of them saw or heard anything. Susie Jaeger had vanished into thin air, plucked by a shadow. As days stretched into weeks, and weeks into months, Special Agent Pete Dunbar attended a workshop at FBI Headquarters in Quantico, Virgina, led by two agents who had hatched a radical new idea: What if criminals left a psychological trail that would lead us to them?

At last…perspective
Reviewed: 04-03-23
Growing up in the pre-internet, pre-social media era, the lives of children then was worlds different than today. As a classmate of Michael Rainey, growing up in Bozeman, we all heard our parents discussing these stories, but it is just now, all these decades later, that this fantastic retelling put things into perspective and explained what we could not have possibly known then. Great true crime story very well done.

Story
Some women are just off-limits. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting Elle Mariano. She’s clever, big-hearted, and the sexiest woman I’ve ever met. The thing is, she’s fighting the demons of her past and do I ever know how hard those are to battle. So I try my best to be her shoulder to lean on. Until the night we combust. And one night turns into hot, dirty days, and secret trysts. If it all sounds too good to be true, it is. Because once I learn the secret she’s keeping from me, my entire family’s future turns riskier than I ever imagined.

Wasn’t sure what to expect
Reviewed: 03-08-23
I thought I would try this story after reading reviews. I enjoyed some aspects of the story more than others. The mystery surrounding the criminal activity was fairly interesting, and while I realize there are only so many ways to describe sexual acts —they seemed oddly placed throughout the story for effect, rather than adding depth to the overall story. Many of the narrators were quite good but one or two sounded like they were trying too hard.

Story
Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

Uses Longmire characters but….

On one hand, it was interesting to see how the author tied the characters into his newest story… It was just so darn far from what I typically like about the Longmire series that this particular book was not very enjoyable. It was well written, just not for me.

Treachery with a dash of crazy
Reviewed: 02-25-23
This was a good solid listen —sometimes the storyline moves slowly, but it wasn’t so slow as to be painful. I liked the mysterious aspects of the story as well as the setting and mix of characters. Story brings to mind the quotes about old age and treachery.

Great narrator for this Agatha Christie type mystery. Listening to it reminds me of watching BBC television mysteries.
