Story
"No big deal"...for 15 years, these words kept Torey Ivanic from telling her parents, friends, and boyfriends about her interactions with the gymnastics coach who utterly confused her young mind, body, and soul - who had, she eventually came to understand, sexually violated her. In this memoir, Torey transparently and brilliantly shows how the abuse started, the collateral damage it created in her young life, her realization that it was a big deal, and her journey of healing and justice.

An open, heartfelt and important story
Reviewed: 09-10-21
Narrated by the author, this audiobook provides a necessary and important message: society has created an elaborate system that protects abusers and leaves the victims to fend for themselves as they attempt to recuperate from their trauma. Because of this, the courage and conviction it takes for victims to come forward and expose the truth is heroic. Torey is such a hero and risked it all in order to create a world based in principles of justice and truth. Though I was never involved in the world of competitive sports growing up, this was a revealing insight into just how easily power dynamics can create situations of harm for young athletes. I highly recommend No Big Deal.

Excellent narration for a pretty engaging story

I listened all the way through mostly bc I found the narration to be so masterful. She ease fully moves from character to character and tackles a French accent quite well. Not an easy book to narrate! Story line was historically interesting but it read a tiny bit like a YA novel.

Margaret Trudeau, former wife of Pierre Trudeau, 15th Prime Minister of Canada, mother of Justin Trudeau, Canada's current Prime Minister, and international mental health advocate, brought her intimate staged performance, Certain Woman of an Age, to the Minetta Lane Theatre, where it was recorded live for Audible Theater. In this "fearless and vulnerable" (Chicago Tribune) one-woman show, Trudeau opens up - with refreshing candor - about her extraordinary life and her encounters with some of the most important icons of our time.

Enjoyed this audiobook and listened all the way through. Loved getting a pretty descriptive history of modern tuning in the US but felt like I was in a marathon myself given how the book seemed to drag a bit between hours 7-9. Did pick up at the end. You’ll love this book if you’re a serious runner.

My only complaint was that I wanted it to be longer so that I could enjoy the narrator’s talents just a bit longer

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.
