About this listen

Margaret Trudeau, former wife of Pierre Trudeau, 15th Prime Minister of Canada, mother of Justin Trudeau, Canada's current Prime Minister, and international mental health advocate, brought her intimate staged performance, Certain Woman of an Age, to the Minetta Lane Theatre, where it was recorded live for Audible Theater. In this "fearless and vulnerable" (Chicago Tribune) one-woman show, Trudeau opens up - with refreshing candor - about her extraordinary life and her encounters with some of the most important icons of our time. It's a gripping portrait of motherhood, marriage, life-altering tragedy, and personal triumph. Co-written with Alix Sobler and directed by Kimberly Senior, Certain Woman of an Age is a funny, honest examination of one of the world’s most fascinating figures.

A lighthearted performance of a very serious issue

A poignant yet lighthearted performance by a remarkable woman who suffers from mental illness. It is highly personal and helps to remove the stigma of mental illness.

A life review romp by a former first chic

This was a short pithy presentation by a famous and infamous beauty of politics and society. She makes having a mental condition sound funny, at least retrospectively. Her ability to laugh at herself while telling her truths out loud, in public even, took courage. To me, her set was clever, informative, honest, apologetic, cautionary and a hoot. Hope it helped anyone harmed soften with understanding and laugh a little like I did.

Remarkable

Tremendous candor about self and mental illness. Narrated with such passion and compassion. An admitted flawed character, the narrator, author, and performer brought to the forefront the serious challenges of mental illness that far too many of us in this world face. Truly inspiring especially in the final minutes of Margaret Trudeau's performance. I am blessed to have experienced her heartfelt passion.
