I liked the story and finished it in one day, but I wish I would have started with book one and not book 3 🤷🏼♀️ I could follow it but I would have known the other characters better.
I understand why dual narrations are done this way but he made Sophie sounds snobbish, and I went from liking her and think she was a sweet brave woman when MJW read her lines to where did the sweet Sophie go when he read her lines. The male narrator did a great job on the male characters just not quite there for the female ones.
I loved the book and will go back to the beginning of the series.

I haven’t read many gothic novels, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I throughly enjoyed this book. The Narrators did a great job, dual narration was done right and not just every other chapter.

I love these old books they feel more real for the time. I love this narrator and she didn’t disappoint with this book. The author does a wonderful job at keeping the story interesting by making the characters come alive on the page. I will definitely be purchasing the rest of the books from this series.

I have waited a long time for these books to be released on audible and thankfully the narrator did an amazing job on this book. I love this genre and the author wrote an amazing story, Even though Alaina drove me crazy it was easy to realize she was young and her back and forth was easier to understand,

I am normally against brothers going against each other for a woman but Ms Hoyt wrote these characters so well that it was not a problem for me. I have read/listened to this entire series 3 or 4 times already and I hope to read/listen many more times in the future.
This authors writes stories in such a way that it lifts my spirits every time and the narrator does such a wonderful job it’s a pleasure to listen to these books one after the other.

Story
Valentine Layton, the Duke of Malvern, has twin problems: literally. It was always his father’s hope that Valentine would marry Miss Arabella Tarleton. But, unfortunately, too many novels at an impressionable age have caused her to grow up...romantic. So romantic that a marriage of convenience will not do and after Valentine’s proposal she flees into the night determined never to set eyes on him again. Arabella’s twin brother, Mr. Bonaventure “Bonny” Tarleton, has also grown up...romantic. And fully expects Valentine to ride out after Arabella.

Completely inconceivable but still not so bad that I didn’t want to finish it. I don’t know how a duke could be so ignorant of life at 28. Bonnie on the other hand was quite child like which I suppose I did some what understand. All and all the book was ok but I very much doubt I will read the next one.
The narrator in this book was excellent and definitely made the book better for me.

Toby never meant to be a highway robber, but needs must. He didn’t plan to impersonate a top London valet either, but when the chance comes to present himself as the earl of Arvon’s new gentleman's gentleman, he grabs it. Unfortunately, the earl is the man he seduced and robbed on the road to get here. Oops.

That was a lovely story but KJ Charles is a great writer and I have yet to read or listen anything by this author I didn’t like. I liked that Miles didn’t automatically forgive Toby it made the relationship more believable and easier to relate to.
That is the right way to do a dual narration great job gentleman!
