Story
In 2108, Colony Ship Voyager departed Earth for the planet of Promissa with 18,000 of the world’s best and brightest on board. 250 years and 27 light years later, an arrival is imminent. But all is not well. The probes that they’ve sent ahead to gather the data needed to establish any kind of settlement aren’t responding, and the information they have received has presented more questions than answers. It’s a time when the entire crew should be coming together to solve the problem, but science officer Sheila Jackson can’t get people to listen.

Story
Getting abducted by aliens wasn’t exactly on Cara Call’s bucket list…so when she’s taken captive by a massive, overbearing alien warrior, she comes out with fists blazing. Too bad her new captor is about as wicked and delicious as they come…nipple piercings, scars, and all. Devix was once a proud warrior of Luxiria - impossibly strong, universally feared, and full of carnal lusts and desires befitting his race.

The storyline was fine but my biggest complaint is in the narration. The woman’s voice was cloying and kept using the endearment “baby”. Annoying.

Story
As a sci-fi author with a hit TV show, I have a few ideas about what alien invaders are supposed to look like. In my stories, they’re technologically advanced monsters, with tentacles, and no faces. Turns out I was right about the technology. And about how angry they’d be. But the way they look is more terrifying than even I could have imagined. They look exactly like us. Because they are us.

An enjoyable story. A small time criminal is given the choice of the Space Marines, or cryo prison. He becomes a Marine and is a natural soldier. He is promoted and I believe we will see him become a leader in future books. More than a few series are built on this premise, so I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I enjoyed it and was entertained. I will follow up with Book 2

A book within a book

I usually listen to Sci-Fi, and I know of Nathan Hystad as a Sci-Fi author. I was a little surprised to find this was a mystery, but really enjoyed the story. Four good friends growing up are brought back together at one of the friends house when they are 40 years old. The central character is a detective, and the friend who organized the reunion is now a best selling author. He wants them to read the manuscript of his next book which turns out to be based on their last summer together as a close knit group when they were 15 years old. I won't write more than that except to say that summer changed them all. I enjoyed the story and recommend it.

Great Story!

I absolutely loved this book. I'll not give any spoilers. I'm generally not a fan of alternative history, but this hooked me from the start and was a fun journey to the very end. It had a lot of action and adventure, character and plot twists with subtle humor throughout. I laughed when historical quotes were worked into the story, but not in the original context. Ray Porter did a great job narrating. I will certainly look for more work by Rhett Bruno and Jaime Castle. I highly recommend this book.
