Story
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Really enjoyed the book while driving across country with my husband.
It’s my job to look through the limitless books to find something he would like without his input.
Sometimes it is hard to find something we would both enjoy listening to but this was a winner.
But then again we both love Mike Rowe so when I found it I knew I had a winner.

Following Jesus is a journey none of the people in this book ever expected to take. Why did they? What difference did it make? The book you’re looking at is dangerous. If you listen to it, you’ll see that God is still active in saving even the most unexpected people: An atheist woman who viewed Christians as “idiots.” A married couple high in the leadership ranks of the Mormon church. An African-American man who became a Black Muslim out of hatred for white Christians. And much more!

I wasn’t sure what to expect but was not disappointed. As Christians so many lack real knowledge of what the Bible actually teaches. True Christians need to do better at knowing what they believe and sharing that with a lost world with unconditional love.
There are so many hurting people that are looking for Jesus. We need to be able to share Him.

Shrill is an uproarious memoir, a feminist rallying cry in a world that thinks gender politics are tedious and that women, especially feminists, can't be funny. Coming of age in a culture that demands women be as small, quiet, and compliant as possible - like a porcelain dove that will also have sex with you - writer and humorist Lindy West quickly discovered that she was anything but. With inimitable good humor, vulnerability, and boundless charm, Lindy boldly shares how to survive in a world where not all stories are created equal.

Not for me
Reviewed: 08-24-18
I’m not sure why I thought this would be for me but it definitely was not. I listened to the 1st Chapter for about 15 minutes and thought I hope the whole book isn’t like this. So I skipped to chapter 4 then to 8 then to 15 then chapter 18 and it was ok. I listened to 18-20 and then it was over. A comedian talking about being fat and how society treats fat people just wasn’t my thing.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It put me into the story and made the Bible story come to life. Made me think of how God wants us to have a personal relationship with him. I love listening to books and I love reading the Bible so I wasn't sure how I would like this book but it was very well written and very much worth the listen.

Eventually, his countless hours of research and science proved successful, and he discovered the equation for permanent happiness. Thirteen years later, Mo's algorithm would be put to the ultimate test. After the sudden death of his son, Ali, Mo and his family turned to his equation—and it saved them from despair.

This was a very thought provoking book. I didn't agree with everything he said but much of it I did. We all have trials in our lives. How we handle those and how we think about them makes all the difference.
