Mo Gawdat
About this listen
Mo Gawdat is a remarkable thinker and the Chief Business Officer at Google's [X], an elite team of engineers that comprise Google's futuristic "dream factory." Applying his superior skills of logic and problem solving to the issue of happiness, he proposes an algorithm based on an understanding of how the brain takes in and processes joy and sadness. Then he solves for happy.
In 2001 Mo Gawdat realized that despite his incredible success, he was desperately unhappy. A lifelong learner, he attacked the problem as an engineer would: examining all the provable facts and scrupulously applying logic. Eventually, his countless hours of research and science proved successful, and he discovered the equation for permanent happiness.
Thirteen years later, Mo's algorithm would be put to the ultimate test. After the sudden death of his son, Ali, Mo and his family turned to his equation—and it saved them from despair. In dealing with the horrible loss, Mo found his mission: he would pull off the type of "moonshot" goal that he and his colleagues were always aiming for—he would share his equation with the world and help as many people as possible become happier.
In Solve for Happy Mo questions some of the most fundamental aspects of our existence, shares the underlying reasons for suffering, and plots out a step-by-step process for achieving lifelong happiness and enduring contentment. He shows us how to view life through a clear lens, teaching us how to dispel the illusions that cloud our thinking; overcome the brain's blind spots; and embrace five ultimate truths.
No matter what obstacles we face, what burdens we bear, what trials we've experienced, we can all be content with our present situation and optimistic about the future.

Artificial intelligence is smarter than humans. It can process information at lightning speed and remain focused on specific tasks without distraction. AI can see into the future, predicting outcomes and even use sensors to see around physical and virtual corners. So why does Intelligence frequently get it so wrong? The answer is us. Humans design the algorithms that define the way that AI works and the processed information reflects an imperfect world.

As an 18-year-old, black, broke, lonely, insecure, university drop-out, from a bankrupt family, I wrote in my diary that I wanted to be a 'Happy Sexy Millionaire' by the age of 25. By 25 I was a multi-millionaire having created a business worth over $300m dollars. Ironically, in achieving everything I set out to, I learnt that I was wrong about almost everything... The world had lied to me. It lied to me about how you attain fulfilment, love and success, why those things matter, and what those words actually mean.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

The problem is your scarcity mindset, left over from our ancient ancestors. They had to constantly seek and consume to survive because vital survival tools like food, material goods, information, and power were scarce and hard to find. But with our modern ability to easily fulfill our ancient desire for more, our hardwired “scarcity brain” is now backfiring.

In this witty and perceptive debut, a former editor at Psychology Today shows us how magical thinking makes life worth living. Psychologists have documented a litany of cognitive biases and explained their positive functions. Now, Matthew Hutson shows us that even the most hardcore skeptic indulges in magical thinking all the time - and it's crucial to our survival. Drawing on evolution, cognitive science, and neuroscience, Hutson shows us that magical thinking has been so useful to us that it's hardwired into our brains.

The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.

If every therapist and psychotherapist on the planet could repeat this to their clients, like a mantra, again and again, there would be fewer therapists and psychotherapists. Because it works. Very quickly. Realising that what you're worrying about and stressing over doesn't really matter so much in the grand scheme of things is the door to freedom and healing. And the little profanity 'F**k It' is the key to that door.

Story
For most of human history, the rules of power were clear: power was something to be seized and then jealously guarded. This "old power" was out of reach for the vast majority of people. But our ubiquitous connectivity makes possible a different kind of power. "New power" is made by many. It is open, participatory, and peer-driven. It works like a current, not a currency--and it is most forceful when it surges. The battle between old and new power is determining who governs us, how we work, and even how we think and feel. New Power shines fresh light on the cultural phenomena of our day, from #BlackLivesMatter to the Ice Bucket Challenge to Airbnb, uncovering the new power forces that made them huge. Drawing on examples from business, activism, and pop culture, as well as the study of organizations like Lego, NASA, Reddit, and TED, Heimans and Timms explain how to build new power and channel it successfully. They also explore the dark side of these forces: the way ISIS has co-opted new power to monstrous ends, and the rise of the alt-right's "intensity machine."

In Happy Derren Brown explores changing concepts of happiness - from the surprisingly modern wisdom of the Stoics and Epicureans in classical times right up until today, when the self-help industry has attempted to claim happiness as its own. He shows how many of self-help’s suggested routes to happiness and success – such as positive thinking, self-belief and setting goals – can be disastrous to follow and, indeed, actually cause anxiety. Happy aims to reclaim happiness and to enable us to appreciate the good things in life, in all their transient glory.

Best Book Ever
I usually don't like to read but I try to read one book a year just to keep this habit in my life. Also, it usually takes me 2 to 3 months till I finish reading that book. However, when I got solve for happy I finished it in 5 days only, because it was really interesting and full of knowledge. Moreover, I got this book as audible to send it to my father to listen to it and I know it will make him happy. I highly recommend to get it and you I'm sure it will help your understanding of happiness.

It can change your life
Solve for Happy is another book I recommend. It is from a Google X engineer who lost his son due to a medical error in Dubai and struggle to find the formula of happiness. What to take out of your life, what points of view to modify and what to add to be happier. It's a pretty good book till the last few chapters when he tries to discredit the theory of evolution. If you put that aside, it's a great book, beyond a shadow of a doubt!

This is a very special book. Maybe the best I have or ever will read
I was introduced to this book by a very kind, like minded and intelligent doctor. He was from another culture, extremely foreign to me in every way. He lived in another country thousands of miles from my home. We met randomly on an island far from both of our homes. We were both involved in volunteer work full of sacrifice and discomfort. Some of the final words of this exceptionally well written book were this.:."we do what we can because we can for everyone while we are here" or something like that. Profoundly impactful story full of some of the greatest logic and reason married with faith. Thank you Dr. Ali for referring me to the inspiring story of Ali; told by his father in his own words.

Intense, logical and beautiful - just like Life
a very original, emotional yet mathematical way to explore some of the greatest mysteries of life. If happiness was a continent, this book would be the method to build the engine to reach it. to your tools now...

Wonderful book
Any additional comments?
I simply loved the book and thought it's perhaps the best self-help book I ever read. I felt the narration was very poor and couldn't understand many words spoken by the author. I think it was all "ego" to have narrated this extraordinary piece of self-help wisdom and should have been left to someone with a soothing relaxing voice.
With that said, It's difficult to express just how great the material is and the research developed as well as the brilliant mind this man has to make it all work together.
The book is mostly about the loss of his son to be honest, and yet trying to get "back to happy" is a large issue here as well. It's either that or kill yourself from the grief I guess and he made the decision to honor his son and help others in the process. I sometimes sit back and imagine what it must be like to be this smart and yet still be full of compassion and love for others. What a great and honorable man. I wish the world had many men like this that felt driven to change the world for better rather the riches that does almost no one any good at all. This book, I truly believe can change lives and worth all your time to read or listen to it.
