I wasn't sure what to expect of this book going in, but I am definitely not disappointed that I bought it. Our MC is overpowered, but it's not really emphasized but in a couple of extreme circumstances. There's only a little real action, and the sex isn't porn-level stupid. Instead, the sex only emphasizes the relationships.
This may all sound boring and be a turn-off to some, especially if they expect violence and smut going in. But this story is worth listening to, I promise. The narrators do an amazing job. So amazing that I've since looked for other books they've done regardless of subject.
Do not get bogged down in your expectations and do yourself a disservice by not getting this book.

Travis Baldree proves he's more than just a voice actor with this book. The story is fun and light. And I love how the menu gets updated just like a status screen in a litrpg!

This story never once let me down. Ilea is fun, funny, and loves to fight. But also heal. Her class is a battle healer, and it makes her an absolute beast in a tough spot. There's really not much of anything to complain about this book, and yet, people will always be ridiculous.
I read a review where someone says "I'm no prude..." but they didn't sign up to listen to softcore porn. WHAT!! In no way, shape or form is there any graphic sex in this story. yes, sex scenes happen, but nothing but the bare minimum.
This story is about a grown-up, surrounded by grown-ups. Maybe it's time you grow up, too.
It really bothers me when people leave a shitty review because they are childish and petty. Rate the story based on ALL OF IT.

I decided to listen to this audiobook after reading all the books currently available, and I'm glad I did. This was my first audiobook with a male narrator only, and Travis Baldree did a phenomenal job.
This series is really amazing. Yes, the main character is overpowered, but not immediately, and it's not something outside the parameters of the system of the world he is transported to. Felix's journey is not easy, where he is just given some ridiculous power that makes him unstoppable. He struggles throughout, and experiences a whole lot of pain.
But he's smart, and yes, maybe lucky as well. But like I said, it's within system parameters. And if the beginning seems slow, don't despair. It's not long til the action starts.

Great Story, Lacking Lead

This story is has an original approach to its roots in game mechanics that I really liked. It's not the typical Class, Level, Skills, etc. When people being taken and dropped in new worlds is a normal occurrence to the characters, it changes the day to day dynamics.
That said, the main character, Nora, says and does just about everything wrong, immediately after addressing something within herself. For example, at the beginning of the book, she's talking about how great she is and why she's the leader of her gang group-very smart and capable-and BAM!, she just stands there while one of the girls in her group kills on of the others, then a minute later, stabs her best friend 3 times. Like literally, does nothing, says nothing, for minutes, until it's all over.
This is a theme throughout. Some inner dialogue where she addresses a failing, and vows to do better. Then a situation immediately arises where she has the chance to put her plan into action... and does the opposite.
It happened enough that it was the sole reason I removed a star. I'm not sure I've ever wanted to scream at a character so badly to stop being a freaking moron.

I read all eight of the books out so far in about two weeks. But I couldn't get enough. So I am now listening to each book.
Tess Irondale does a phenomenal job of bringing Salvos to life. The series is amazing, and I don't think a better narrator could have been chosen. Book 2, here I come!

Perfect Narrators for an Amazing Story!

I can't say enough about this book, so I'm gonna keep it short and simple. This is one of those stories that draws you in and holds you tight, even in the quieter moments. Heck, maybe even more so during the quieter moments. I immediately got invested in the characters, rooting for them, and getting angry for them when bad stuff happened. I was never bored, and that makes all the difference.
Ann Marie Lee is the voice of Gaudrel, a character from the past telling stories to a young girl, and I just imagine sitting around a campfire at night, leaning forward on my rock, and being swept away. She has the most perfect voice for storytelling, especially an epic such as this. That said, all the narrators did a phenomenal job. There was never a moment where I wished someone else was reading. That's hard to pull off with five different voices.

Great Finish, Least Great of the Series

I have really enjoyed this series. The FMC is an absolute badass, the narrator is perfect for the character, and the magic is awesome.
But in this final book, our FMC-Vinna-got on my nerves sooo bad, though admittedly, part of it was the way the story was written. It's like Vinna completely lost the ability to act rationally. She's always had a temper & is quick to violence, but there's always a reason. In this book, she was quick to violence with no thought behind it. Repeatedly. And instead of her mates immediately saying, "Stop. It's this, not that," those scenes dragged on so much longer than necessary.
There were also so many scenes where Vinna monologues in her head while staring blankly instead of acting. Which is totally opposite of her norm.

The story was great. The end was great. But this book was my least favorite for simple reasons. It isn't bad, just annoying.

I read this whole series a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. So when it came to audiobook format, I wanted to experience it that way as well. We get an FMC that is completely badass, but helps kids nonstop. Plenty of laughs, some tears, and cool magic, provide structural integrity to a legitimately great book.

And while Lucy Rivers may not have been my first choice for narrator, she still did a good job.

This book was all I hoped it would be. I found myself trying to read-listen-faster and faster as the story progressed. Nina became one of my favorite characters, and after watching how Shadow & Bone on Netflix combined all of our Grishaverse characters from the get-go, I'm hopeful that Nina, in all her badassery, stays central to the tv series.
Rule of Wolves did a really great job of wrapping up each storyline in an organic way, and boy were there a couple twists I'm so glad not to have seen coming. And though it's the end, there is so much potential for continuation, and hopefully the ending alluded to potential becoming reality in the future, and not just a clever way of telling readers that it may be the end for us, but the characters have futures to look forward to.
And as always, Lauren Fortgang performed beautifully. Her ability astounds me every time I listen to a book she has performed. Her loyalty to a character(s) is obvious from the get-go, and she's one of only a handful of narrators I've heard that never misses a mark. I never think to myself, "She read that line, or paragraph, or scene wrong." Even her inflection is always spot on, regardless of the voice she is using. A book like this, with all its different characters and accents and even languages, the narrator either shines or drowns. And Lauren Fortgang shows us she is a Sun Summoner through and through.
