Not her best but ok
Reviewed: 01-24-25
I feel like this book reads a lot like fan fiction. Zodiac academy was better in my opinion. This one I feel had less plot and was more sex-fantasy-fetish driven. I liked the narrators except the woman says "doing" in a really strange and distracting way and mispronounced some words like "tarot" but all in all the performances were good. Better than the story.

Story
I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course there’s a catch—all I have to do to claim my birth right is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

I love everything but Orion's voice
Reviewed: 12-28-24
I just wish that Orion's voice sounded attractive at all. But he sounds like a dad, not a boyfriend. He sounds like he's in his 40s not in his late 20s. His dialogue and the actions he performed don't go along with the nerdy professor voice that he is given. I hope the actor will work on that for the next book.

Betwixt Betwixt Betwixt

Lots of fat phobia, quite a bit of misogyny, and an extreme overuse of the word betwixt. There were some really good plot points that brought a tear to my eye and were interesting enough. I’ve read better and I’ve read worse. The excellent narrator kept me listening when I wanted to stop the book.

I didn’t like the ending but it was interesting. Up until then I really enjoyed the book and was eager to listen. The voice actors did an excellent job. I just wished for a happy ending. At least for Karen.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Romanticizing abuse
Reviewed: 08-07-24
I tried to listen to this book because so many people suggested it. The descriptions, language, and plot lines are just regurgitated from other books. This book feels like it was written by a perverted man with sick fantasies of abusing women. Are we sure H.D. Carlton is a woman? Images are sparse. None of the main characters are likable and I tried hard to finish but had to stop with the cheesy house or mirrors scene. I’m going to try to get my credit back.

I thought this book was very sweet and definitely some interesting twists that haven’t been delved into before. I LOVE the character building of Jane that gave her more depth than the beautiful yet kind of boring eldest Bennet sister. Very good book and I will certainly listen again.

I enjoyed this
Reviewed: 05-14-23
I really did love this book for the most part. Definitely different from the other Jane Austen spin offs. However, I couldn’t stand the voice of Lydia though the rest were perfect. She didn’t have to sound like she was pouting 100% of the time. That was cringy. Otherwise, the performance was perfect. My only other complaint was the plot twist was all very confusing. I won’t reveal any spoilers but I’m still not 100% on the whole plot twist crime. Like there were so many first names thrown around and it was really hard to follow the
who knew who and why they did what they did. Also, there were SO MANY sub plots/romances that came out all at once that it got a little redundant. However, I love the new Lady Catherine and the tender moments between her and the Bennet sisters was very sweet and brought a tear to my eye more than once. Despite my complaints, I really enjoyed this book and will listen to it again I am sure.

The book was very well read and while all Elizabeth Gaskell’s novels are sad and moving this one I thought was especially touching. The heroine makes me want to be a better person as many of the characters due. E.G. doesn’t write happy books but they give you food for right and move your spirit.

Story
Among Jane Austen's favorite novels, and a key work in the rise of Romanticism, Camilla follows the story of three young women, from childhood to young adulthood, and their pursuit of matrimony. Kind but naive Camilla is in love with Edgar Mandlebert, a handsome and noble young man. Intelligent Eugenia, destined to inherit her uncle's great wealth, is plagued with misfortune as she is left disfigured by smallpox and has men court her for financial gain only. Meanwhile their cousin, beautiful but selfish Indiana, never finds a fortune for her good looks.

It was long but I enjoyed it. My only complaint is that Camila spend so much time in remorse and crying and that voice she used for those emotions was a little shrill/whiny and began to get on my nerves. Even with that her performance skills are amazing!!! She is a true actress and probably a girl of 19 in distress would sound shrill and whiny. The story was beautiful and characters vivid.

Story
A vivid and affectionate portrait of the residents of an English country town in the mid-19th century, Cranford describes a community dominated by its independent and refined women, relating the adventures of Miss Matty and Miss Deborah, two middle-aged spinster sisters striving to live with dignity in reduced circumstances. Through a series of satirical vignettes, Gaskell sympathetically portrays changing small town customs and values in mid-Victorian England....

A sweet, simple story.
Reviewed: 01-05-23
This story is certainly less heavy than a lot of Elizabeth Gaskell’s other stories. However, not much happens in the plot line. Several, small events with only one pretty exciting event at the end that you see coming at the middle of the book. this is a simple, cozy, and a little bit boring read. The performance was excellent.
