The narration was a bit choppy. The main character was frequently annoying. However, I had things to do, and this kept my mind occupied. The story eventually progressed well, and came to a reasonable conclusion.

The only complaint I have is that sometimes the transitions between characters’ voices was not smooth. Other than that, this was a pleasant listen.

This was my first experience with Tessa Dare, as well as Mary Jane Wells. It was a joy. I will certainly try another.

It is a sorry thing, when a good narrator almost ruins a book. The female narrator's interpretation of the main female character almost stopped me before I got into the story, and was touch and go throughout. This still seems strange to me because her other female voices were good. Though she improved later, the male narrator did better, carrying the story during the majority of the book. I might have better enjoyed this as a read (not possible) than as a listen, for the narration alone. It was a serious distraction.

Persevere-- The sample doesn't do it justice!

I owned the paperback, and was excited to see an audio version--then listened to the sample. It took months for me to overcome my horror, and actually purchase it; more months before I could convince myself to load it onto my mp3 player. Finally, I loaded a couple of new books, and told myself I'd give it a couple of miles of my walk, at least, before I gave up on it completely. Soooo glad I did! The narrative settles down, the 17 year old male's voice loses a few decades (even if the 28 year old inherits a close relative of the same voice), and the the narrator actually adds something to the overall experience! (I wavered, but in the end gave her a 4 since most of the book is quite easy to listen to.)
Just grit your teeth through the uneven narration at the beginning. The rest of the book is worth your time and money!

There are some books that are best read. This is very enjoyable to read. But this book, with this narrator, is as hilarious the fourth listen as it was the first! This book has me laughing aloud while walking down the street. It might or might not be the first one of the series you want to read, but having read them all, this is my first choice and go-to book in this series. The narrator nails the main character, and does just fine with the others. And did I mention funny?

The premise is good. The supporting characters work. The narration held my attention. Unfortunately, the main characters eventually overcame the remainder of the positives. Sorrowfully, I couldn't bring myself to finish the last few chapters. Perhaps someone else would enjoy it.

First, it will help to know that this one takes place almost exclusively on earth, and actually begins before Tinker. If you had to read it before any of the others, you could, but why? It covers a longer timeline, and so ends just before the end of Elfhome, suggesting that the two storylines are about to merge. Oh, the possibilities.
Tanya Eby does a really great job, especially with Joy and the babies' voices. I look forward to future books in this series.

Elfhome continues the story of Tinker, and the Pittsburgh displaced onto another world, but in this book we get to see more of Oilcan, and that oh-so-reluctant-hero, Tommy. The war heats up, as Tinker and Oilcan have to figure out just who is actually behind everything.

This is a very satisfying listen, the story supported by excellent narration. Tanya Eby doesn't falter, even as the cast expands, adding richness to the tapestry created by Wen Spencer. I hate having to wait for the next installment!

Would you consider the audio edition of Wolf Who Rules to be better than the print version?

It is hard to top the written version of a Wen Spencer, but this one tries. The more characters involved, the more distinct voices Tanya Eby provides.

What did you like best about this story?

Impatience is my favorite character. There is lots of good stuff, but gotta love the dragon.

Which scene was your favorite?

With one unexpected twist after another, it would be hard to say what was best.

Any additional comments?

I don't know how easy it would be to start this series with a later book, without the earlier books to build upon. Like real life, the characters don't just interact with a limited cast, and it grows, and background expands, as the series progresses. I highly recommend the series!
