About this listen

The war isn't over...

With the world clinging to a fragile peace forced on the Fae by humanity after the Faerie Wars, metalsmith Alex Blackwood is plunged into the world of the half-fae who traffic in illegal magical artifacts. Her best friend's murder and his cryptic last message place her in the crosshairs of a scheme to reignite the decade-old war between humans and fae.

Worse, violent attacks against her and the arrival of a fae knight on a mission force Alex to face a devastating revelation of who and what she is. To catch a killer, retrieve a dangerous artifact, and stop a war, Alex will have to accept that she's an unregistered fae "halfer" with a unique magical talent - a talent that would change everything she believes about her past, her art, and her future.

Her world is crumbling around her, and Alex will have to decide who to trust if she and the world are going to survive.

This is the beginning of a promising series. The story starts with the female main protagonist being attacked by a couple of males. Then later she is attacked by other people, or beings. Let’s just say she isn’t having the best week or two. She finds out things are not what they seem. People she thought of as human aren’t or not just human. Monsters are not necessarily bad, and being human doesn’t mean you are good or right.

The author welcomes us into her world with each new character and situation. Making for a colorful world made up with a plethora of different beings who capture your interest and heart.

I recommend this book to fans of Urban Fantasy and the paranormal.

Intriguing Urban Fantasy

So, the beginning starts off really good. But then it becomes cumbersome as more of the established world is explained. The characters are interesting so I hope the story will come together better in the next book.

I'm not sure

I enjoyed this book. I have also read book two in the series and am partway through the third one, so I would have to say the author is doing something right.

The world of these books starts with magic and the Fae as something everyone knows about, but that doesn't mean there aren't other discoveries for the protagonist, Alex Blackwood, to discover along the way.

Do you like magic? Fairies? Mysterious happenings? If so, I would say, you will find this series an interesting and fun one.

I love a good Magical World!

I have never had the pleasure to read nor listen to any of LE Braden’s Novels therefore I was elated once I purchased this Audible to find a new author that I truly enjoy!
I highly recommend this audible; the storyline is unique and never lags therefore once I started listening I couldn’t stop until the end!
I’m definitely looking forward to LE Braden’s next masterpiece!

A pleasant surprise!

I wasn't sure about this book at first, but I kept with it, and it got better pretty quickly a couple of chapters in. I went on to books 2 and 3, and this series kept the pace of drawing you in more and more into the adventures and description of this main character's world.

Took me a minute at first

The narration was a bit choppy. The main character was frequently annoying. However, I had things to do, and this kept my mind occupied. The story eventually progressed well, and came to a reasonable conclusion.

I almost gave up

Fantasy stories of this type are not my go-to books to read** so I was a little surprised that I really enjoyed it a lot. The narrator was very good and AFAIK this was the first audiobook I’ve listened to that she’s narrated. I’m pretty picky when it comes to female narrators (I usually prefer to listen to a male voice) but I would listen to more from Heather Costa. It’s the first book I’ve read by L. R. Braden.

The story itself was pretty complex and that’s understandable for the first book in a series of this type. There was a lot of set up for the world/series happening so perhaps the next books won’t be quite as involved set up wise. I haven’t read many (maybe not any, I can’t remember) stories with Fae and the other kinds of characters that were in this story so I don’t know how this compares to similar fantasy worlds.

So, while this might not be my normal kind of story to read/listen to, A Drop of Magic held my attention and I found the story interesting and engaging.

**I read this for a reading challenge I was participating in.

An interesting story.

Thought this book was ok. I'm not sure if it was the recording or the performance, but it wasn't my favorite to listen to.

It was ok

The story was fast paced in some places and exciting. Like a who done it for murder with magical being and humans. Cute idea and it moved fast in some places but got tedious when details got too involved…. Especially when there was no reason for the details. And as an audiobook read there where too many characters in play to remember who was who and why. Start slow and don’t rush the action but give the reader less characters to begin with so you not only have fewer names but build up the relationships between the characters and the heroine. Then add as the series take off and develops. Let the characters develop as you go and then the listener can remember who and what each person is.

The overall story was enchanting
