Disappointed in Patterson
Reviewed: 01-05-25
The story was not engaging as most of his stories are. It was like I was assigned to read it in high school and had to trudge through it. Narrators voice seemed forced and not in rhythm with story. I tried to return it but found I couldn’t because I paid cash and not an audible credit

Story
Edgar Allan Poe elevated the gothic story, developed the unreliable narrator, recast psychological terror, and reveled in both the horror and the supernal beauty of death. From Poe's rich, unrivaled imagination comes a collection of his most masterful works, including "The Black Cat", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and, of course, "The Tell-Tale Heart". Each story explores morbid themes of grief, greed, fear, and guilt, and together they embody Poe's grotesque obsessions...even the dread of being buried alive.

Story
All the stories in this collection from Stephen King are related to the Vietnam War. King fans will recognize echoes of The Dark Tower series in the collection's first story, "Low Men in Yellow Coats." As the characters develop over the next four stories, King's version of the Vietnam War becomes one of his most frightening tales ever.

I like the first part best. William Hurt did a phenomenal job of narrating and acting I guess you would call it. The succeeding parts of the tale took me a while to see their connections to the first part. Vietnam was very real and the finale was final in tremendous SK style. Bravo

During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Another Great Saga with unlikely heroes
Reviewed: 09-27-24
SK stories are amazing in that they could be a thousand pages and you still can’t wait to get to the next one. Our main protagonist and his sidekick are the most unlikely of heroes but yet they are the most relatable and realistic people. The setting and the conflict is audacious. Also if you are a reader of The Tower Series you won’t miss thematic elements, language and characters from those tales. Only one bad thing to say. I never want to listen to Eli Wallach the narrator again oft times so soft spoken I couldn’t turn up the volume enough to understand clearly as he tailed off a sentence. I’m sure many people won’t have the same trouble as I did.
