About this listen

In L.A., Cassie Black is another beautiful woman in a Porsche: except Cassie just did six years in prison and still has "outlaw juice" flowing in her veins. Now Cassie is returning to her old profession, taking down a money man in Vegas. But the perfect heist goes very wrong, and suddenly Cassie is on the run - with a near-psychotic Vegas "fixer" killing everyone who knew about the job.

Between Cassie and the man hunting her are a few last secrets: like who really set up the job, why Cassie had to take the chance, and how, in the end, it might all be a matter of the moon....

Not Bosch, but good!

Although recently released on audio, this book was originally published around 2000. Much of the book takes place in Las Vegas, with a blend of real and fictional references. Having read all of Connelly's Bosch books, I found this a refreshing change. It was more current, and the characters embrace technology rather than fight against it. Good twists and turns, a classic heist story. If you liked the movie Ocean's 11 you will like this.

A Perfect Book For A Long Drive.

Beautifully crafted, I came back to this after having read it, twice, some years ago. The narrative is tight; each part leads to the next. The flashbacks are deftly placed and fit well as each card is revealed. The heroine prevails, despite seemingly impossible odds. The solutions are brilliant, not contrived. Perhaps a few too many loose ends are tied up at the end, but the listener can be forgiving because the ride along the way has been so good. A perfect audio book for a long drive.

Enjoyed it

It took me a little while to get into the book, quite slow to begin with, lots of background on the characters. The finish line was full of action and I felt that the narrator finally found his flow. All in all a good story.

Really enjoyed

When I listened to the last available Bosch book, I decided to give this a tray. I am very glad I did. I thought the story moved well and I found myself listening well into the night.

Not My Favorite

Not on a par with other Connelly books I have read or listened to. Way too many details about a thief’s tools of the trade and the workings of complicated snooping equipment. Since I didn’t like any of the weirdo characters, it was fine with me when all the scumbags got killed off. All the details about the gory murders, in addition to the foul language, were more turn-offs for me. I like Connelly better when he focuses on plausible characters and a strong plot.

Very Good

I have listened to at least twenty Michael Connelly audio-books and this is Top 5. Very good story and held my attention. Ending was also good. Narration was above average.

Definitely recommend

Hoping for another

This was a really good story. Something different from Connelly. I was burn out on Bosch & Haller, so I’m hoping he expands on Cassie Black, the main character here.
