Story
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

Most of the time I feel indifference about the characters I spend my time with in books but, if there is anything that will stick with me at the end of "The Goblin Emperor" is my love and admiration for the main character Maia. All I want is more of this book and this world.
This would make a great binge worthy show on any of the numerous streaming platforms to choose from. I can't recommend a book anymore than I will this one.
If there is one word I can use to describe this story it's "thoughtful".
It's great to read something that makes a positive impact throughout the entire time spent with it.

I did enjoy the book but it just seems to missi h something to keep me hooked. That said I'm looking forward to the next book.
By no means is this a bad story, I kind of wish they would have framed the galactic atmosphere better.

Cade Sura holds the future of the galaxy in his hands: the ultimate weapon that will bring total peace. He didn't ask for it, he doesn't want it, and there's no worse choice to wield it in all of space, but if he doesn't, everyone's totally screwed. The evil Praxis kingdom is on the cusp of having every star system under its control, and if that happens, there'll be no contesting their cruel reign. Especially if its fanatical overlord, Ga Halle, manages to capture Cade and snag the all-powerful weapon for herself.

Breezy but fun! A lot more than expected.

For one the narrator is great. Definitely a high spot among a lot to like in this book.
Story wise it speeds along and has action filled hooks with every turn in the plot. The characters themselves weren't fleshed out to the point of over saturation but were certainly unique and Dan Bittner's narration was key to that.
The plot itself won't tax your mind to much and the dialog is quite fun.
This book is a great in between books book. Fast. Fun. Doesn't taken itself too serious. I'll definitely be listening to the rest of the series.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

R.C. Bray narration fits this book like your favorite socks. Story was a different take on the Human vs Alien Invasion. Skippy is money. He does wear a little thin with his "humans are stupid monkeys" schtick but all together a surprisingly great amount of fun.

Story
The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

I was searching for my next great read when I came across Leviathan Wakes. What I found was a whole hell of a lot more. Each book in the series dives deeper into such a well thought out and intricate story arc that makes it seem like a plausible future for mankind. Cibola Burn is no different. Even with the alien aspects much more prominent throughout this book ,I can almost believe in a time that the trials in this story will one day be true to form. My only gripe is that Erik Davies isn't quite the emotional narrator that the previous one was. He sounded a tad robotic in his delivery at times. But if that is the only thing I have to complain about than I can certainly love with that. He's not terrible. Just not the same voice I had heard throughout the other books.

The alien artifact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has appeared in Uranus's orbit, where it has built a massive gate that leads to a starless dark. Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artifact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core. As the emissaries of the human race try to find whether the gate is an opportunity or a threat, the greatest danger is the one they brought with them.

I'm very glad I chose to read the first book in this series as it has opened up an entirely fresh SciFi world to explore and become enthralled with. As the others before it "Abaddon's Gate" delivers with thought provoking ideas and witty dialect amongst the characters. The best part is I still have many more books in the series to enjoy.
