The villain was a bit over the top, but no less so than what we see in Bond movies. I would have liked a more sultry Margo Lane like Penelope Ann Miller gave us in the Shadow movie. But that is how they seemed to direct these radio shows in the 30s. Overall, it was a good listen.

Unlike romanticized western stories, this one was graphic and moral in an anti hero manner. Hard to describe what I mean in a short review. Regardless give it a try for a different take on the Wild West.

I'm now a retired attorney and not a Fed Soc member. I tried to like this broadcast but it was too boring. The delivery and pace droned on. Maybe it got better but life is too short. Moved on to other listening materials.

First of all, the narrator provides an easy voice to listen to. She's well-paced and provides relevant examples of her topics. I'm pretty familiar with the field of social psychology, but I enjoyed hearing how she presented these topics.

There really are other movie experts to quote besides Roger Ebert. After a dozen of his “Finally I’d like to quote…” it got rather tiresome. That was especially true when the Ebert quote was sometimes not at all insightful. But that’s a very minor criticism. Overall, a worth while listen.

This professor is extraordinarily good with his knowledge and lecture style. I know that this topic is jammed with material that is too much for half hour lectures yet he presents it in a manner that is easy to digest and leaves the listener informed.

I couldn't finish it. I'm not sure where I stopped, but enough is enough. Melodramatic doesn't describe it. "Ham acting" is more appropriate. As for the plot, I lost interest obviously. The acting just was too much of a turnoff.

I got this book because I enjoy the author. This was certainly a major departure from his Russian crime novels. This seems to have been an extremely well-researched book on bats and vampire bats specifically. Also author delved headfirst into the culture of the Hopi tribe. I would be interested to see what is said about the authenticity of his comments on both bats and the Hopi tribe, but hopefully, he got things right. The story itself was quite fascinating and the bats made for exceptionally "good" villain characters. It took a while for me to care about the main hero character but he grew on me. The ending may have been a bit expected, but I'm glad it didn't end up in an apocalyptic fashion.

I listened to this story while also listening to some non-fiction books and other hard copy readings that I needed to complete. But this book kept drawing me back for much of my free time. It was a story that presented in a factual manner what life could have been like for people on opposite sides of the war. The sadness and heartbreaks but also the strength of determination. It's not always easy finding WWII stories of strong women so it was good to find this book. The narration was quite good except I found the reader's interpretation of the "Joy" character a bit tiresome. But she wasn't one of the main characters. Overall, a book that I strongly recommend.

Told in a podcast style, the story appealed to me for several reasons but mostly because I remember the Apollo space flights. This is an important back story left out of most all renditions of the space history. Good to have it told and hopefully retold many times over.
