Some critically important messages hit bullseye and there were some misses too

This book offers a necessary and important correction of misinformation and missing information of past works of other authors on the topic of sex. Well done!! That said, while there are some positive comments about men it does strongly focus on painting quite a bleak picture of men and speaks of our grave inability to have a healthy sexual relationship. If I were a woman reading this, if I wasn’t beforehand, I’d walk away feeling very cautious of men. Listening to this as a man, it almost makes me not like men. I say almost because, being rooted in God, I’m solid in my identity and worth. I see and live out the tremendous worth of both women and men. I applaud the important messages shared and the call to accountability of men as well as authors and church leaders. I also caution against the strong negativity toward men and not capturing the male perspective at times. We’ve been hurt by women as well. A bit more balance would have been beneficial. I realize every single book will have its hits and misses. No one author or no one book is perfect. My heart goes out to all women and men who have been in unhealthy sexual relationships. I hope we all find healing from our wounds. Don’t stop at just reading a book. Seek professional help.

Shares some solid concepts and certainly has good intentions - lacking in the how to get there. Ie. are you not happy…then just choose to be happy.

Liked - clear message and breakdown of the elements to someone being trustworthy, the countless personal as well as professional examples; really solid points throughout

Disliked - examples and steps for navigating resolution of broken trust were limited solely to situations where there was only one party that had broken trust. Would have been far more helpful to include insights and details in which both parties had betrayed the trust of the other. Would have given higher rating with that included. That’s a big gap to overlook for an author who has worked extensively in this area.
The reader was ok not great.

Lots of excellent information and insights. An important read for all step families, those considering step family life, and even those considering ending their marriage (to consider what is in store). This book is a solid start to the work necessary to making step family life fruitful.
The reading was only ok. Almost sounds like an AI voice at times. Would recommend re-recording the narration. Feel it could make it much more engaging.

Some solid content; the narrator made it tough to listen to slowed it to 0.9x listening speed and that helped a little bit; got a bit repetitive; could have benefited from more examples; funny that they warn against using absolute statements then use them various spots

The delivery is sing songy throughout the entire book. It’s quite distracting and led to losing a level of authenticity and credibility. Would encourage a re-record. Certainly touched on some important bits. Perhaps resonates with others more.

Powerful message. Really hits on the importance of both people in the marriage being willing and able to do the work needed to bring about healing. It doesn’t happen on its on. You have to be focused on Christ and willing to die to self for the benefit of the other. To stop being a barrier to what He desires to accomplish.

As someone well into my own healing journey this read fell super flat. That said, if you are just starting out on your healing journey and becoming a king this may be the book for you. The biggest issue I had is the way this guy/author reads. It is completely one dimensional, overly dramatic. Simply, is difficult to listen to. It’s like a 10 hour dramatic monologue. It feels like he is trying too hard with every single word. I encourage a re-recording of this book. I think the book could be more impactful that way.

A truly wonderful book. Gets to the very core of what a true relationship calls for. If you are closed off to making yourself vulnerable and engaging relationships with your whole heart this may prove to be a difficult read or one that falls flat. I hope that is not the case.
