Story
Abandoned by his father after his mother drowns in a frozen Minnesota lake, fifteen-year-old Wes Ballot is stranded with coldhearted grandparents and holed up in his mother’s old bedroom, surrounded by her remnants and memories. As the wait for his father stretches unforgivably into months, a local girl, whose own mother died a brutal death, captures his heart and imagination, giving Wes fresh air to breathe in the suffocating small town.

Don't listen to the nonsense reviews
Reviewed: 01-30-23
This is an outstanding book! from beginning to end it will draw you in and make it hard to stop listening. It's one you'll be thinking about long after the final pages. HOWEVER....If adult subject matter ( sex, language, abuse) are topics you cannot handle, then skip it and listen to something else! It's better than leaving a bad review for a hauntingly beautiful book.

I very much liked the 1st book in this series, but as you move through book 2 and this book, book 3, it's like listening to the same book with a different title. I'm personally disappointed. I haven't decided rather to return the book or not but I won't be listening to anymore books in this series should more come out. I still love Blake Pierce and I'll continue to buy his books. Just not from this series. The narrator was fantastic and I'd definitely buy books read by her again!

Story
Little Marek, the abused and delusional son of the village shepherd, believes his mother died giving birth to him. One of Marek’s few consolations is his enduring bond with the blind village midwife, Ina, who suckled him when he was a baby. For some people, Ina’s ability to receive transmissions of sacred knowledge from the natural world is a godsend. For others, Ina’s home in the woods is a godless place.

Misleading description of the book! I try to rarely return books but this will definitely be one I return. I did listen to the end. The whole time I'm thinking, the reviews were great for this book, it's got to get better, right? well it doesn't! save your time.

Now, more than 20 years later, Chuck's teenage daughter, Frank, plots her escape from this "busted and disgusted" town. It's really hard these days to find a good thriller/Mystery/Horror, book I haven't already listened to and that's worth a dang. Every once in a while though, ya get surprised! This was a great book with equally great narration. keeps you guessing until the very end. This one's going on my favorites list👍

Story
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more - Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants...until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.

This book isn't scary at all. It's not bad, just not what I thought I was spending my credit on. More fantasy with an edge than it is scary.
will be returning, not because it was "bad", but because it wasn't at all what was described.

This is the best book I've listed to in quite awhile. I was almost starting to think to myself that I must need a break from audiobooks for awhile because I just haven't been able to get into anything lately. This book changed that for me. I still love audiobooks just as much as I ever did. Iv'e just been on a less than great book streak! Buy this book. It's amazing!

wow! what a book! This is one of them you never want it to end kind of series . Every book is just as good if not better than the one before it. I don't think any narrator could have performed it better than R.C. Bray. Do yourself a favor, buy the books. They are more than worth the credit.

This was such an amazing book. emotional, touching, sad and true to what life would look like given the circumstances in this book. It's a book that makes you think and it's one that will sit with me for a long time to come. Not many books do that to me.
The narration couldn't have been any better and it was well worth the money spent. I rarely listen to a book more than once, but this will be one that I pick up again some day.
