Story
When Stephanie Land set out to write her memoir Maid, she never could have imagined what was to come. Handpicked by President Barack Obama as one of the best books of 2019, he called it an “unflinching look at America’s class divide…and a reminder of the dignity of all work.” Later, it was adapted into the hit Netflix series Maid, which was viewed by sixty-seven million households and was Netflix’s fourth most-watched show in 2021, garnering three Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Stephanie’s escape out of poverty and abuse in search of a better life inspired millions.

I enjoyed listening to the second half of this journey. Her determination to build a life for her and her daughter. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming and know she has found success despite the daily obstacles she faced. What an achievement to rise above all that held her back, and what an example for her daughters.

Story
You Can’t Be Serious is a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from Kal Penn’s idiosyncratic life. It’s about being the grandson of Gandhian freedom fighters, and the son of immigrant parents: people who came to this country with very little and went very far—and whose vision of the American dream probably never included their son sliding off an oiled-up naked woman in the raunchy Ryan Reynolds movie Van Wilder…or getting a phone call from Air Force One as Kal flew with the country’s first Black president.

I loved hearing about growing up in NJ and his connection with his family. However as diverse as his story is from actor to politics. He glossed over any in-depth connections between his personal life with his fiancé and family. Three chapters on politics was so not necessary seemed like he wanted to make sure he had enough content for a book. How about talking more depth besides the director of The Namesake, one of the most beautiful films in my opinion ever made. His collaboration with the other actors and the story and the journey of making it not just that he “ got the part”. All of this is deliberate leaving the reader with half the story. Second worse bio since Christie Hyde’s

Story
A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

First , I could listen to him read endless bumper stickers, his voice is so soothing. His story, sad and uplifting, to find his way from a painful period that shaped his life to the man he has become. How he was able to find himself with that upbringing in a clash of family, monarchy, tabloids. I say bravo you were able to get out. Your a class act, you didn’t burn down the house, just pulled back the curtains. The insanity of your family/ institution needing the tabloids is like the dirty mafia. Your the strongest in your family and thanks for nit sugarcoating your step mother and uncle. Hopefully they ( your brother) will see the light..,

In 1851, Olive Oatman was a 13-year-old pioneer traveling west toward Zion, with her Mormon family. Within a decade, she was a white Indian with a chin tattoo, caught between cultures. The Blue Tattoo tells the harrowing story of this forgotten heroine of frontier America. Orphaned when her family was brutally killed by Yavapai Indians, Oatman lived as a slave to her captors for a year before being traded to the Mohave, who tattooed her face and raised her as their own.
