Story
It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

Difficult beginning

I almost stopped reading this audiobook after the beginning chapters because I felt evil was going to win. But then I remembered that Koontz was the author, so I continued on, and I'm so glad I did. Somtimes I got confused and had to go back and relisten, but then it made sense. Great read. Great narrator. Great story line.

After a slow start introducing the characters, I couldn't put it down. I laughed and cried. The story line gave few clues as to what would come next. I didn't really want to listen to this book, but I am so glad I did. Hope there is a sequel.

Story
Marvellously atmospheric tale of strangers summoned to a grand but neglected villa on the Italian coast. Each of them has been named in a will, but nobody knows their benefactress.... Four very different people are named in a will. Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice by illness; George, an idealistic scientist who cannot face what his skills have created; Marjorie, desperately poor and unable to dislodge her writer’s block; and Lucius, ostensibly in control but whose personal life is in chaos.
