Story
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Great story, but the going back and forth in time was challenging
Reviewed: 08-26-24
The end of the audiobook was a good summary, but the style of moving back and forth over time periods was a challenge to follow. We use audiobooks during long drives to make our driving time more enjoyable.
It seems this author approaches storytelling in a manner that doesn’t suit me because I generally prefer a more linear narrative. The narrator was excellent, however.

The performance by narrator(s) were superb…but the author’s choice to jump back and forth between time periods was annoying and downright confusing for a 13-hr audiobook.
I was glad to hear the author describe her research and the results of later forensics in her monologue.

No other living soul resides there, but Francine isn't alone. There are ghosts in Thwaite Manor, harmless and familiar. Most beloved is Bree, the mischievous ghost girl who has been Francine's companion since childhood. When Francine's estranged sister, Madeleine, returns to the manor after years away, she brings with her a story that threatens everything Francine has always believed.

I love the narration of Siobhan Waring, so tracked her to this book after enjoying her on other Audible series.
Two of us listen to audiobooks on long drives and this was a bit different genre than usual for us, but enjoyed the story and hope for a sequel with Siobhan’s narration.

Great narration, several repeats by author

The narration of the story and various characters’ voices was very well done.
The author seemed to reuse several background references multiple times which made the story longer than necessary. However the author’s research did provided pertinent information on the River of Doubt and it’s jungle environment that made the story richer.
