Story
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Boring depraved story, no action, too talky.
Reviewed: 08-23-24
Boring depraved story, no action. Too talky. It was conversation after conversation, no evidence to track down. The story of the family was so cruel and evil that I could barely listen to it. I love most of Karen Slaughter’s. But listening to these ignorant hillbillies’ unforgivable acts was torture, not suspense.

A THRILLING NOVEL OF MALICIOUS VILLAINS, DRAMATIC REVELATIONS, AND HEROIC GESTURES THAT STAYS TRUE TO AUSTEN’S STYLE. Excellent. Written in the manner of Jane Austen, and a beloved sequel to Pride and Prejudice.
The Virtual Voice narration is dreadful, but still well worth listening to for devoted Mr. Darcy groupies.

Great story and characters, but the filth that constantly falls from their mouths is devastating.
It is not just the swearing, it is the constant graphic sexual innuendo, which is jarring.
Tami Hoag is one of my favorite authors. She has the gift to make a story keep moving along in an interesting and intelligent manner. I just wish that I did not have to wade through all of the verbal sewage.

Slow Boat to Nowhere. I don't care for books where 90% of the book is the character babbling to themselves about theories as to what might be happening. Then when they actually have an encounter with someone, everyone lies and you have no idea what is actually going on until about the last chapter.
What was Maggie Wallace about, a decoy?
