Stale and Stagnant!
Reviewed: 10-26-21
is this it, is this all there is to this story, same plot line, the only difference in this book and the first, this is boring, STALE, and Stagnant. When will there be any character changes, plot changes, for pitty sake a few new names would be nice. Sad end to what started out as a fun series.

Story
Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

Story
Telryn "Trip" Yert has always been a little odd, with hunches that are too accurate to explain. Magic is feared and forbidden in Iskandia, so he's struggled his whole life to hide his eccentricities. As a boy, he was forced to watch his mother's execution. Her crime? Witchcraft. Understandably, Trip wants nothing to do with the power that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king's army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as General Zirkander.

Simply can't get past the horrible narration. It sounds as if she was inhaling helium during the the first chapter at least. I didn't get further than that before I deleted the book. What I did hear of the story was amateurish at best, at worst a complete waste of time.
