Story
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

How the author could outdo the first book is beyond me but holy hell she did!! Iron Flame (and this series) has become my absolute favorite. Now i understand what everyone was talking about when they said they needed something to get them out of Fourth Wing Withdrawal!! The next book can’t come soon enough!!!

I am just going to repeat myself on previous reviews but it must bare repetition. Kate Elliott is a master at her craft. Not since Tolkien has such a story been written… and still two more books to go.
I read the entire series over a decade ago and to experience it as an audiobook narrated by the brilliant Shiromi Arserio, has catapulted it into a level of utter perfection. Thank you. Please hurry with releasing the last two installments!

I wrote a review for the first book in this series saying it filled the deep hole left from finishing ACoTAR series and The Cruel Prince series but wow…. I actually think I love this duology even more! The plot was unique enough to hold its own place even if it had very similar tropes and plot lines. I absolutely adored it. And OMG the narrator was INCREDIBLE! Every single character had their own distinct voice that gave the character depth and soul.
My only criticism, as I mentioned in my review of the previous book, is that it doesn’t have the setting/world building that the aforementioned comparison series have. It is a mostly character/plot driven story.
I HIGHLY recommend this series!!

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

I was hesitant to read this as it was focused on a different protagonist in the ACoTaR series but I am SO happy I did!!it was such a fulfilling and different story but still had all the beloved characters. I couldn’t have enjoyed it more!!
Some complained about the narrator but having loved Stina Nielsen in the From Blood and Ash series I knew she would do a great job. (The initial opening is over the top dramatic but just stick with it!!)
On a content note- this is a VERY VERY graphic (with a capital “G!”) book more so than any of the other ACoTaR so be warned!!

Story
Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she'll do whatever it takes to get her back - including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court. Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie's only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him.

It’s true that if you loved ACoTaR series and The Cruel Prince this will give you a much needed fix! It has similar elements of the two series but is different enough to be a satisfying on its own two feet.
The narrator is phenomenal!!! All the voices are different and she keeps you Entranced in the story!!
Only downside is not nearly the world or story building and setting description as the other two series, and as much as i love a beautifully rich world and depth of story, I actually didn’t notice as I was so involved in the characters.
I seriously cannot wait for the next… thank you Lexi Ryan for taking the leap into this genre and thank you Casey Holloway for bringing the characters to life!

Enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this duology! It’s pretty chaste and innocent but still has enough to keep all ages interested. It was pretty unique in world creation as well! I wouldn’t say it was as in-depth world/characters as ACoTaR (and certainly not as graphic!) but more along the lines of Shadow & Bone.
A lot of the reviews of the first book in particular said it was “Insta-love” but I have to disagree with that taking into account the lack of life experience that Nar has. She found Talin attractive, and for once someone was looking at *her* and not her perfect sister.
Also given that and the situation she finds herself in at Newcastle, her only ally with any power (for she was completely powerless), it’s natural for her to attach to him and build on it. The “love” as in “I love you” wasn’t “insta”.. moreso the attraction. All in all an enjoyable, cute read.

Essie would do anything for her kingdom...even marry an elf prince she just met that morning. The human kingdom of Escarland and the elven kingdom of Tarenhiel have existed in an uneasy peace after their last wars ended with both kings dead. As tensions rise once again, desperate diplomacy might be the only way to avert war. If only negotiations between elves and humans were that simple.

Cute story but written for a 12yr old Audience with minimal story, character and setting building. The narrators performance of Essie was god-awful. 75% of the book was Essie’s internal monologue that consisted of non-stop questions… and an extremely uncomfortable and annoying obsession with hair, hair products and touching hair. The book was ridiculous.
